Hi Guys,
While 99% of MAME games work after creating a default input config file, I'm noticing that some games still need some manual massage. For example:
20pacgal needs the Start buttons massages because this system had 4 Start buttons. Without massage, it's impossible to start Galaga
PlayChoice-10
Asteroids / Asteroids Deluxe - if using joysticks, buttons need to be remapped to left/right instead of buttons
Any other games come to mind like this?

i believe any game that has 6 buttons, like street fighter needs 5&6 buttons mapped for both players.

Smash TV
Total Carnage
Robotron
If you have a 4-player panel, the co-op games always need changing on my machine to line everything up to the screen properly. (i.e. the characters on the screen line up with the proper joystick)
Simpsons
X-men
Ninja Turtle series (I also add the player 1 start button as start since it defaults to button 1 in the real game).
Also, on my setup, I have 7-buttons, so I always change my Mortal Kombat games to be the following:
HP Block HK
LP Block LK
Run (only used in MK3)

Any alternate play type game like pacman where player one plays then player 2 plays.
A lot of people will use just one stick for 4-ways like that but the game controls still default at left, right, etc for player 1 but R,F,G,D for player 2

By default, MAME assumes you have six buttons laid out like this:
123
456
If you wire them that way then most things will already be mapped correctly, including all the 6 button Capcom fighters.
The Midway fighters (Mortal Kombat series & War Gods) will need to be remapped.
If you want the 4 button Namco fighters (Tekken, ???) to be true to the original 4 in a square layout, you'll have to remap them. Personally I prefer the way they fall with the default MAME mapping.
If you didn't lay out your buttons like that, then anything with more than 3 buttons is going to need remapped.

Here's an alternate configuration that works great for Xybots. (the original control panel had twist-to-turn joysticks)
With a 6-button layout like this . . .
123
456
. . . map the buttons this way:
1. Turn left
2. Fire
3. Turn right
4. Zapper/Start (double-map so you can use either the start button or button 4)
