Hi guys! I love video games, and recently won a storage auction that had an old school arcade console in it! I was so excited until I plugged it in. Nothing happened :( What's wrong with it?
Brah, you just totally need to do a cap kit or get a new bulb for the monitor. $5 fix.

Nothing is wrong with it. Its an old school arcade console. Nothing but switches and knobs. I wouldn't clean it if I was you. That old school dust could be worth something. :applaud:

I read __________________'s thread and I was greatly inspired to build my own. I have a ___" LCD lying around and thought it would be awesome to play Pac-Man, Street Fighter 3 Alpha, Final Fantasy, 720, and <insert Steam Game here> when I have some buds over. I also served on the USS Enterprise back in the day and would love a control panel design that reminds me of the good old days on the flight deck. Is $300.83 too much for buttons?....

Well guys, turns out the outlet I plugged it into was live. I tried a different outlet this morning, and it fired right up!
I seent this problem a million times.
However, there is another problem. It only plays one arcade game. :( How do I get it to play all the arcade games? I'm itching to play some Mario Kart on this thing!
Dave Foley can sell you some game packs.

There is also an artifact on level 39 just before the kill screen that is not present on the original machine.
It's damn near unplayable in MAME because of it.
Ask anyone around here. A cab that plays one game is better than one that plays thousands. :cheers:

Finally, some helpful info! After scouring over the numerous projects here, it's clear what I have to do to play the games I want. Even though I've never built anything before, I'm going to take a stab at building a 4 players panel to mount on my console. I want 8 buttons per player (gotta play that Mario Kart!). I thought about making the buttons light up, but I'm inexperienced with wires and I just need to keep this simple. But all this raises another question... How do I mount this panel to my console? Here is a pic I just took, so you guys know what I'm working with:

If I can't get the colors working on the display, I might have to go the LCD TV route. Probably just easiest to mount it right in front of the old display. Right? Thanks again for all your help!

Good call. I made a new mockup. I installed the wheel in one of those nooks for the extra players. If anyone in England is inspired by this build, they can put the wheel in the other bay.!!!1!

If it were me, I'd be pretty embarrassed to have the all the brosefs over just to have them disappointed that pinball ain't on your mega-cab.
I dunno...if it was me and I spending this kind of money, I'd throw a plunger on the beech and a couple side buttons. Can't hurt and it's really easy to do. Plus you have a better chance of getting into the HOF thread here.
Also, you really should be documenting your build in greater detail. It would really help us n00bs that are going to want to do the same build. :cheers:

I don't like hardly any of the spinner games, but if I ever add a spinner...each player is getting one.

You need art. Find pictures of street fighter characters from at least 3 separate games, the dinos from bubble bobble, Sonic the Hedgehog, and your favorite band/sports team/movie logos. Top it off with a big MAME logo and Call it MameCade. If you prefer, Opt2Not will draw everything by hand for you for $50.

I added the pedals to the front, so that means I have to move the wheel to the front, but that's OK, there's plenty of room to reach over the wheel to use the trackball.

I won an original Star Wars game that I ended up converting to a 80210 in 1 machine. Painted over the silly Star Wars artwork and made it all black and added official MAME artwork everywhere. I bought a 4-player Slik Stik and then added more controls on to that. Now I can play ALL the games. I just ended up putting the old original Star Wars controller on the free section of Craigslist to come pick it up from my driveway.
Funny it was gone in 5 minutes and I still get calls to see if I still have that controller. Weird. That was a year ago.

Maybe you could get some inspiration from this? With enough buttons you can emulate the steering wheel just fine!

I'd not bother with the control panel though. That's so "last decade". Get some accelerators, sew em to gloves, wire up a Bluetooth module and make VR gloves to control your games!

you need to angle the outer 2 players joysticks, but dont angle them in towards the screen, angle them 45 degrees outward.Screw that, I'll angle them 90 Degrees so Players 3 & 4 are facing EACH OTHER and they can leer and sneer at each other like the 'roided out Marvel Vs. CAPCOM characters on the bad ass control panel I'm designing.

Make sure the box is big enough so people can see it there and its not a hazard they'll run into, and also so it can hold the EXTRA LARGE rolls of tickets. Maybe for modern day authenticity add another box on the other side for a bill collector. You know, so its nice and symmetrical.
There's way too many mahjong roms in MAME to leave these off.
