Finishing up the build phase of my 4 player 32" slimcab.
I need to choose between a 720p or 1080p LED tv for my 4player slim cab.
Was going to buy one today but cant figure out between 720 or 1080.
I will be running hyperspin with all the wheels/ systems.
Will be mostly playing mame games, a few 90's systems, and some pc steam games.
Ive just recently discovered the M.U.G.E.N game project and it looks awesome!
I definately want to run mugen but heard its low resolutions wont work on high resolution tv's.
So would I be better off going with 720p or will I regret not having 1080p when im playing pc games?
Is 1080p neccessary for a dedicated mame/hyperspin cab?
thanks

Youtube MUGEN and it looks neat.
If you are just going to use a TV, I'd grab what ever is cheapest off craigslist. People seem to upgrade to a larger size all the time.

I was going to go with a sharp 32" 1080p led that has great reviews for being used as a pc monitor.
Its only 199 at BB. I could go with the 720p version for 179
I just dont know which to get. Planned on the 1080p but after looking into mugen..... I really want to be able to play it.... but heard it may not run right on 1080p tv's due to it needing to run at a lower resolution that 1080p tv's wont support.
Im trying to choose which to sacrifice... mugen playability with 1080p or go with 720p and be able to play mugen but pc games wont look as good.
anyone have experience running 1080p and 720p in cabs? Is there pros and cons?
If i was simply getting a pc screen I would go with 1080p.
If mugen capability relies on a 720p i will go that route unless im losing alot of quality.
Ive always had 1080p tv's so dont know what to expect with a 720p.
As for the buying used.... they are not much cheaper and would rather get something new that I can read reviews on so I know they are pc compatible with decent latency

Go be poor somewhere else.
1080 or gtfo.

Did you even read my post. Its not a question of saving money... its a question of compatibility with mugen and since Ive never used any tv that was 720p I dont know if Im sacrificing quality.
Like i said in my....... errrrrr im not repeating myself. Please reread my question.

Wow, really? It's been around a long time and has been known in the arcade scene since the beginning. Crazy that you somehow missed it.

I don't really like fighting games. I'd heard the term but never bothered to investigate it until now.

I can remember downloading the "Korean SF2" that ultimately became MUGEN. I had a 2400 baud modem and had to request additional login time on the BBS to download it. Took almost two hours and was an astounding two megabytes.
I was a neighborhood god until it came out on SNES.
It wasn't until 20 years later I had learned that not only had that game stuck around, but turned into this big thing online. I've found the experience to be pretty unpolished and up there with Beats of Rage.

Yeah, never a fan of it myself either. I was just reacting to someone here not knowing what it was.

What can I say? I stick with the classics. :-)

I just found out about it.... some of the vids do look buggy but others look pretty polished.
Never played it but thought it looked interesting.

SFLiM became SFiBM, Fenix remade SFiBM as SFR (using the original guidelines) and eventually UFGE (SFR without the SFiBM standard). MUGEN came out the same time as SFR and had nothing to with SFLiM. Citation: I helped on the SFR and UFGE engines and releases (as llinrac).
Maximoff is pretty much the only guy who still devs for UFGE :/

Back to Op, shouldnt matter if you have a 1080p TV, most LCDs support VGA in and will just scale up the lower resolution.

I still have my old version of M.U.G.E.N. "SNK vs. Capcom" from 2009. Still works and looks great. Here it is running on my machine...
As for the HDTV, I agree with what Malenko said. It should do it automatically.

Thanks guys.....
The 1080p sharp led tv I was looking at has pc input as DVI. I know dvi is basically hdmi without sound but dont know if it will scale the same as vga.
Is dvi good to go or should i look for a screen with vga?
-
DVI is the interface connector standard , its purpose is digital but it supports analog. Thats how VGA to DVI adapters work, those 4 pins with the line between them are the analog pass throughs.
if the TV only has DVI in use a VGA adapter.

tell me about it. I put a 25" medium res monitor in a midway cab and my back is ---smurfing--- killing me.
