I bought a couple cheapy 3rd party SNES controllers from the local swap meet for the kids to throw around. (keeping my good legit SNES pads for myself)
I noticed these pads, for some reason, will not work with the game genie. (used to give infinite lives or power or whatever so the kids games don't last 45 seconds.) I have absolutely no idea why they won't work. once you are in the game, they work fine. I just have to use a legit controller to input the codes. (not a big deal)
I don't know if the commands sent by the controller to the SNES are different or what. but yeah...weird as hell.
FYI my SNES is a first revision original big board. maybe a Rev2 or snes mini would operate properly with these off brand controllers.
:dunno

Keyword here is swap meet. :lol

i expected them to be of questionable quality, sure. but i didn't expect that they wouldn't work on one "game". they are pretty chincy though. i would guess if you have a controller that doesn't work with a particular game, perhaps it's a clone. I don't really expect any of the 3rd party controllers to be good anyways. i was just looking for a cheapie controller the kids can beat up instead of my good pads.
it's kind of funny that a 3rd party accessory wouldn't work with a 3rd party "game". :P

I bought a generic SNES controller a few weeks ago.
It's in the trash now.
Yesterday I received a Super Famicom controller from Japan and I swear it's better than the US version. D-pad feels way better to me. I just have to lengthen that cord.

My snes gamepads were damaged... I paid around 15 bucks for ONE just to get a oem. The third party gamepads are that bad. Keep in mind how cheap I am.

I just paid 16.80 for the Japanese OEM one. They are priced by quality. No yellowing, clean, excellent condition.

I haven't two of the Japanese ones two, but the cords are ridiculously short. Even with a 4 foot extension cable it's still short.

I swapped the cord from a broken US controller and all is well.
