Since we are building a new house, and this time I've scored myself a rumpus/games room, I thought "Why not build an arcade cabinet?" After suggesting this to my wife I got the "One day... Sure" response, which after careful deciphering definitely means "Yes". :P
I've been browsing this site for a while now for inspiration and I believe I've found it.
I originally saw ChanceKJ's Flynn's Arcade (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,135116.0.html) cabinet and love the styling and finish of it. I was thinking of going down a similar path, purchasing a new PC to run Mame, but then I stumbled upon Martijn's Marvel vs Capcom (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,112721.0.html) cabinet. I've got a Xenon Xbox 360 that I haven't really used for a while so will definitely be a good candidate to install in the cabinet. After jtagging it, I'll be able to run emulators and also play modern games.
So essentially what I've decided is a combination of the two. A four player slim cab with a nicely laid out CP (mainly for 4 player MAME games, but not 100% sold on this yet), 32" screen, powered by a jtagged Xbox 360, with the ability to switch to external controllers and have video/audio out to the main television (so I don't lose the ability to play the RPGs that I love). Sticks will probably be Seimitsu LS-32, and buttons will be Seimitsu PS-14-GN with clear rings. I want to make them LED lit and the original plan was to do it similar to Chance's where the lights vary on the game selected, but I currently don't know of any way to control LEDs like that from the Xbox 360.
Right now, just currently at the planning stage. Putting together a list of everything I need and working on cabinet designs... So if people have ideas, suggestions, etc, then please post them up.

Perhaps you should consider getting your self a couple of wired WWE All Stars BrawlPad controllers for your Seimitsu's - They are extremely easy to hack
These controllers are almost identical to the Mad Catz Street Fighter IV FightPad's Martijn used in his build, and also have the 3-way l-stick, r-stick and d-pad switch (Windows even register them as Mad Catz devices)
The only difference between the two is the button placement, but since they'll be taken apart it dosen't matter

Im not sure if consoles are supported by any of the popular LED controllers and software. LED Blinky is the software of choice for led control. The problem is you cant get this software into an XBOX. When you go console you limit your ability to do what a pc mame cab could do.

Thanks for that. I was planning on hacking controllers, but was thinking of just getting a few pre-owned genuine wired controllers. When I was doing some looking around I had trouble finding the suggested MadCatz one. Good to know of other similar options. I'm in Australia though, so anything international will probably come with a hefty postage fee.

That's true... My original plan, when I was going to sort out a PC, was to use LEDBlinky. I tried to find something similar for the Xbox without success. I did figure there'd be some sacrifices I'd have to make by going console, but that's ok. Plans can change.

I want to do the same thing ZeroFallen with my jtag xbox. I was hoping to find a LED controller that will store the programming and not require a PC to run LED blinky.

I might look into whether writing an interface between the Xbox and the LED controller is possible. I'll make sure to keep you updated.
