It's looking more and more like I'm going to have to source someone from the community to help out with BulletReign's Artwork. My Cousin and high school friend haven't shown much appetite to assist.
So that I don't insult some of the great artists here, can someone help me with a reasonable cost estimate for the following items so that I can begin to budget.
- A vector space background to be used as the Marquee background (would like something similar to Space Duel and/or Zero wing)
- A custom designed vector ship/plane not identifiable as a ship from any specific game but definitely SHMUP influenced. Marquee design would call for it facing the left foreground from the right background and firing it's almost cartoonishly obscene weapons (Gatling guns maybe)
More commissions might follow but I need at minimum the list above to get in my trans-lite order in and develop a rapport with the artist. Also if you are an artist interested in such a commission please feel free to send me a PM.

That's tough. Any hint as to what your budget is? I'd hate to put in a bid and you balk at it and think Im an ---uvula--- (even if I made your 3Koam stickers for you for free)

Going off off Opts suggestion that tradesmen get paid 60 bucks an hour, I'm thinking at least trying to get in that realm... however I have no idea how long something like this takes, or if I can afford it now or need to save.
Like I mean if you did a full marquee for me and it took you 4-6 hours and it was supremely fabulous work I could see myself shelling out 250 or 300 bucks. But I also have to temper myself, knowing that that is also about the price of a nice PCB shipped. And plus I don't want to piss anyone off if I want to use their design elements in a Marquee of my own layout that they hate artistically.
Also I really appreciate you knocking out those labels for me, I'll buy you a beer at the next Zapcon we're both at.
and Opt if I had a million dollars you'd have already done my marquee, kickplate, sideart, bezel, and cp.

tell ya what, I piddle around with making a space background. Does it have to be vector or can I use smart objects in photoshop? They are technically vectors but are more shapes than paths, and I save PSDs and not AI files.
As for changing the art you paid for, I wouldnt have a problem with it. Sometimes artists get it close but not quite right and you want to tweak it a little or sometimes you just want to reuse design elements. If you pay for it, its yours IMO.
Opt2Not is far more qualified than I am but I'm probably a lot cheaper :)

The end goal is a translite from stpcore.
so I say vector, only to say that when I blow it up to 25 1/2 inches by 7 1/2 inches it the image degradation would need to be minimal.
I have super limited knowledge when it comes to Illustrator/Photoshop but I did stat at a holiday inn last night and have used paint.net for a while at an extremely novice level.

I think for something like this I'd probably be able to do it in a couple hour's time. The biggest part of this is designing a ship that looks appealing enough and unique to the designs already out there.
I'd break it down to be an hour for the ship concept, and probably another hour to vector and arrange in PS (I've switched completely to PS for vector work now. Illustrator is great, but kinda overkill for arcade art).
Maybe slightly longer.
Pm me or Mal if you wanna get this done. I can probably bang this out this week, since I'm starting to get ramped back up on my other art commitments and can probably squeeze this in.
(Been on an art break lately)

If it were me, I'd hire opt2not over that Malenko guy

Just noticed this, interested, but hey, looks like opt2not has it covered. I would not do this as vector BUT can produce it at high res, certainly enough for a marquee anyway.

Thanks everyone I wasn't counting on interest from three of the baddest dudes on here right away.
I am going to have to get this in my budget quicker than I thought and don't want to waste anyones time until I am prepared to make with the green immediately. Will reach out again mid month.

Figured I'd see how fast I can do a single ship concept (*without putting much thought into the engineering logistics of it), and I was able to bang this rough one out in 15mins. Not by all means great, but just throwing some shapes down and coming up with a shmup influenced ship was the goal.
I figure, knock a few of these quick concepts around, then come up with a solid design within an hour is pretty doable.
Anyway, this could be a fun one that has peaked my interest ;)

I hate to be "that guy" but piqued not peaked. Sorry :(

Wow Opt it never ceases to amaze me how utterly talented you are. #nohomo
What you have there is super cool. I think the austentatious guns are pretty close to whats in my head.

Hehe cool! The weaponry is pretty abstract, but I guess you got the idea as is!
Anyway, if you need me to take this on for you just throw me a PM when you're ready.
This would be a nice small job that could ease me back into doing art for the off-season.

Just for the record, I personally love that sketch you did. Your artistic talent makes me instantly forgive any homophone mistakes ;)
I look forward to seeing the end results!
