Title: CRT Desktop Resolution
Post by: BonusZenny on August 03, 2015, 06:32:20 am
Hi There
Noob question here -
I've followed all the install steps (at least I'm pretty sure I did:) ) but when I switch from LCD monitor to the CRT in my cab, it won't sync.
If I blind press through the frontend, I can start a game and it works fine. It's just the desktop / frontend that isn't visible.
I've set 640x480i in arcade OSD and set that as desktop mode, then shut down. On restart in the cab, it won't sync.
Any ideas?
Do I need to upload some kind of log?
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like this could be the old monitor detection issue with win7, if that's  what you're running? Search the forum - there's a few threads covering the problem.

Also what graphics card are you using and which port are you plugging your CRT into? CRT emu driver only works with the primary display port, which is usually DVI, so you may need to use a DVI-to-VGA adapter.

Thanks for the reply!
Yeah, I found out about the primary port through trial and error, so it's connected via DVI-to-VGA (the card is a HD 4350).
It's win 7 all right - I hadn't heard about monitor detection problems before. I'll have a look around the forum.
Cheers mate

Maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but it seems like the only fix involves adding hardware. Unfortunately I'm no use with a soldering iron ???
Am I missing something - is there a software method to get the monitor detected?

I tried using the updated 1.4a version of arcade OSD and now it looks like it can't change to some resolutions. It reports an error for some (shown in pic attached), and for the ones that it doesn't report an error, the resolution switches back to the default 1920x1080 on restart. So when it does change, the changes don't stick.

That problem is different from the detection issue. I have a fix for that in the version I'm working with. By now, use the Win display properties dialog/show all modes, to select the desktop resolution permanently.
