Title: Keeping TV on after power loss
Post by: gprime on January 04, 2004, 02:39:58 am
I could have sworn this was discussed somewhere alreadty but searching resulted in nothing. Anywho; I got a nice TV for cabinet, but after I turn the power off and then back on, it's off by default. I tried jamming the power switch down also. Still didn't work. I either have to a) always keep it on (big waste of power? -- and no there is no standby mode :() or b) use the remote to turn it on everytime i want to play (really takes alot from the authenticity of it -- and it's hard not losing a remote).

Are there any kind of hacks to keep it on after power loss? If I was a genious maybe I could build a small infared device to send the "on" signal everytime I hit the power switch -- but that's pretty far fetched.

Anyone else in this situation?

If the jam the button doesn't work  then its going to be a little harder. There is no universal trick to make the tv work. Different tv's have different electronics.

You can look into either making your own IR device like you mentioned or you can look into ready made IR solutions like from X10.

not sure but you could hack the remote and mount a button on the cabinet, that way the remote wouldnt get lost.
i was planning to do something like that but luckly found a TV which auto powered up.

That's exactly what I had in mind for mine. Is there any reason why this wouldn't work? Seems a good idea to me.

Buy a cheap Universal remote and hook the power button up to an arcade push button.  That is what I did to solve this problem.

Sorry I always forget about my threads :)

The television is a 20" Prima Q2016. The remote hack seems very interesting. Actually, for some reason this television even came with a univeral remote. Thanks for all the replies!

If you don't mind hacking into the TV, you could also hard wire the power button to an arcade button as well.  Obviously this will void any warranty on the TV, but if that's not an issue, then hack away.  This is similar to the remote solution, but it removes IR from the equation.
