OK, so I've had a Hyperspin setup for quite some time on another cab with an LCD. No issues but wanted something more authentic so picked up a Mortal Kombat cab with a K7000 monitor.
Here is what I've done so far:
Clean windows xp 32 bit installation
crt_emudriver 1.2b
latest version of groovy mame
In vmmaker.ini :
ModeTableMethod_XML = 2
Monitor = k7000 (1st attempt - generated 42 modelines when I ran vmmaker)
I deleted my mame.ini and used the -cc switch to generate a clean mame.ini. The only lines I changed were the rom path and I set the monitor to k7000
The issue is that when I launch a game I get nothing but a black screen. I can see it calling switchres and trying to switch resolutions but whatever it is switching to my monitor just does not like it.
Basically I'm looking for advice on settings. With a clean install of the crt_emudriver and using groovymame what should I be setting the monitor lines to in both vmmaker.ini and mame.ini?
Any help would be appreciated.

Note that I tried changing k7000 to custom in the vmmaker.ini and reran it / rebooted.
It generated 45 modelines when I did that and I did manager to get a screen to come up if I launched galaga. No go on anything else I tried (only a handful of games).

OK, so trying to eliminate possibilities and I can get games to run if I eliminate magic resolutions.
What I did is turned off magic resolutions but limited the number of generated modelines to 90.
I reran vmmaker and rebooted.
Hyper spin still runs and the first game I tried is Green Beret. What happened next is comical. The game was running at 2385%! It was moving so fast it was ridiculous. I could hit player 1 start and the game (all three lives lost) is over in less than a second.
I feel like I'm making progress but just not quite there yet.

I have a similar set-up from you (windows 7). I use the ini settings and adjustments mentioned in post #3 in the below link. Keep the monitor as k7000, it makes a big difference.

Are you also using Hyperspin?
Which way did you go. Did you use magic resolutions or just try to limit the number of modelines to something that will allow it to start?

I have used hyperspin. I did not have a problem with too many modelines because I do not have too many roms to create the list. I am also not using magic/super resolutions.

Good point. I could probably eliminate the need to use magic resolutions entirely by only including roms for games I actually play.
