I just bought a Rowe R-85, still learning about it. The box isn't exactly as it was described, but that makes it more of a challenge, I guess. The question: maybe a stupid one, do all R85's use the optical sensor for the record magazine. My R85 is missing the sensor, but I'm not terribly surprised as there are other issues. Obviously I don't want to buy a replacement if I don't need one, but from what I am reading, they need them.
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Hello Chris,
Welcome to the forum.
What country do you live in? I ask so we can steer you in the correct location for spare parts.
The R-84 to R-88 requires the opto switch with the white molex plug on it.
The R-89 to R-94 and the CD mechanisms uses the opto switch with the red molex plug.
None of the mechanisms will work without it.
I suggest that you post a good picture of your mechanism so we can see if anything else is missing.
Regards

I updated my user profile now, sorry about that. I'm in the U.S., I have found A+B's website, I plan on sending my CCC and mech controller there as I think there is an issue with the CCC. I have found a bad bridge recifier in the amp and have replaced both of the 4700 uF caps already. The unit is missing the stylus, and the optical sensor, but otherwise looks complete, although it appears parts were swapped out, leaving bad ones. The unit still had the manual screwed to the right side and all of the extra parts (coin cards, spare moles pins, a turntable drive belt, license card cover and other misc.) in a plastic bag.
The lighting controller is bad, puts out about 7.5 volts until you attach a load, then the voltage basically disappears. I have not decided if I am going to fix that, as I already put together an Arduino replacement from stuff I had laying around.
Back on subject, I guess I figured out that the optical assembly is required, and based on your post, I will look for one. A+B have new and used ones, but they have the red molex and the wrong part number. I'm going to e-mail them a see if they have the correct ones. Off hand, what is the difference between the two different optical assemblies? I am assuming based on the fact that you mentioned it, that they are not interchangeable.
