Title: Frontend sub-section & New design??
Post by: EndTwist on January 02, 2004, 07:54:40 pm
Hello all,

I've been thinking about these 2 things:

1. Why not a sub-forum under software? It seems there is a lot of frontend talk, and a Frontend sub-section would sort it out well.

2. Why not a new design? It seems to be getting busier and busier every day here, so maybe a new skin would do this board some good. Something a little more "arcadey."

Just my .02...

1) IIRC, YABBSE can do subsections just fine.  It would be kinda nice.

2) Don't fix what's not broken.  It's nice.  Easy to navigate.

The software section used to be nicknamed "The Raging Dragon and Game launcher support forum"  a few years back. ;)  Truth be told 90% of the traffic on the software forum is directly front-end related.  If you were to split it into two forums, the pure software section wouldn't get enough posts to merit it's own section, thus they are lumped together.

Redesign is bad... ummk I've seen just about every single type of forum software out there (and helped beta test when this site was first changed to yabbse) and believe me, the others pale in comparison.  This one is the only one that's clear and easy to keep track of multiple threads.

I agree (edit: with Howard).  A balance has to be struck.  You complain that the forums are sometimes difficult to navigate, but if you get too many forums it becomes a pain just finding the one you're looking for or hitting all the ones that interest you.  You end up forgetting about threads you started or should be participating in because there are so many forums.

I see a new forum like an amendment to the constitution.  Sometimes it just has to be done, but you shouldn't do it for every little thing that comes up and it should usually be a last resort.

Actually that's probably about the dumbest analogy I've ever heard.  ;)
