Title: Sega 4 Speed Shifter Wiring to PC Help
Post by: alex_cs on July 14, 2015, 07:04:20 am
Hey guys,

Trying to get my sega rally shifter hooked up to the Pc via a keyboard hack or ipac.I have seen the retrorepair video with the pinouts using the 74LS138 however it doesn't seem to work. Has anybody successfully done this and can point me in the right direction?

Kind regards, Alex.

can you take a pic of the backside of the sega shifter?

With my 4 way shifter I just wired the 4 microswitches up like any other switches and it worked.

Hey thanks for the response. The sega rally shifter has 3 switches unlike the happ shifters which have four.

Please see the vid for the retro repair resolution which i couldnt get working with mine :(

You probably already came across it, but one of the solutions in this thread may work for you:

Note hiljacks post at the bottom stating that retrorepair's pinout is incorrect.

Sorry I don't have time to read the datasheet and wrap my head around which pins trigger what.

There is a most likely a way similar to the "solution" I posted where you mount a 4th switch upside down on the front so a gear won't always be triggered.
I vaguely remember having it worked out, but my brain is overworked and unresponsive at the moment.

You may also want to make sure the wiring you have in place is correct:

Thanks for replying! Was hoping someone else may have had success with RetroRepair's hack is it does look quite simple! I have seen your wiring diagram too which allows for the three switches to work via ground switching on the third switch. I might have to do some reading on the pins of that IC unit and see if I can get it working.

i wired mine to my xin-mo encoder. very simple. the encoders are cheap (under $20) and they are plug n play as gamepads on the pc. no drivers needed.
