I've got a line on a Virtua Fighter cabinet for $40. What should I know about it, ie how the monitor goes in? Is it a 25"? Monitor shelf?

Grab it, that's a good cabinet for mame. Nobody is going to miss one of those. The monitor is like a 29" I think, at the very least a 27". The mounting is via bolted rails, but it's easy enough to re-do it for a monitor, or even install a shelf. Here's my conversion:

You mean this? (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=V&game_id=10328)
First place I checked. None of the info I was looking for there.
Thanks for the info, Zakk. I'd forgotten you'd done a VF cab. Big monitor though, eh? Wonder how I'm gonna put something in there. This is supposed to be a budget project.

Keep in mind that Virtua Fighter is a medium res game, if you have any plans on re-using the monitor (or if the one you are talking about even has one). I had a monitor that came out of a Virtua Fighter, and it was a 25" switchable std/med res Pentranic 1425. Some pics of the chassis are at http://www.oscarcontrols.com/pentranic, just for kicks. :)

Dam 40 bucks is a steal I would do it in a heart beat! I love the look of the virtua machine it is my #1 fav for doing a upright 2 player cab. You should go get it before somebody else does.

Well, I ended up using a 20" monitor (used) and a 19" monitor bezel. Worked out well, and you can pick up 19" arcade monitors or 20" comp monitors for a good price usually, if you look around long enough...

Damn, that's a good price for that kind of cabinet! :-X
Well, don't bastardize it like many people did on their cabs! I cannot give you anything because i can't really...
Good luck in your future project! :)
