Title: why are all my colors inverted (negative) on Gauntlet Dark Legacy?

Ive tried running this on 2 different machines both with high end video cards and multiple core processors. Both "boot" up the game ok, but when it gets to the main title screen and beyond, all the colors are messed up and most of the screen is white.
Im running the latest mame (163) along with the latest rom and chd files. I even have all the latest mame bios roms and that didnt fix it.
anyone else see this issue?
