Im trying to use Romlister to separate vertical and horizontal games. I have the latest version and am using GroovyMame 0.163, i use groovymame's exe file to make a listxml file, once this has been create i use this to place in the Input XML file section at the version top of RomLister, upon pressing 'Set' i get an error message saying..
"Unknown Input XML Type. Carry on at your won risk"
Any ideas why im getting this error message?

Romlister its a great tool to create xmls, but as far as my own experience,it outputs weird characters in the xml and therefore (in my case) hypespin wont read those xmls, so what i did was to find for any out of context characters and mass delete them . One example is, i found "&" on several game descriptions, all i did was open the xml in notepad, use the find and replace option, to find & and replace with nothing. After that, xml loaded just fine in hyperspin.

Thanks for the info. I havent even got to the stage of using hyperspin yet, its RomLister thats giving me the error message atm

You're likely bumping into the XML formatting that changed in MAME in 162.
I haven't gotten a fix for it yet, so your workaround for today is to grab mame 161 and generate your merged file from it or give me a bit more time to fix the issue.
abispac, as for the XML output files, many of those issues have been resolved along the way. If you haven't tried romlister in awhile, try it again. If there are still import errors you should let me know so those bugs get fixed. Since I don't run every FE that romlister supports, I depend on users to help me test it.

ok, romlister should now work with MAME 162 or higher.
In the merge tool, I take the new formatting and convert it back to pre 162's formatting while merging the data. It's rather brute force, but it should work for today.
very, very lightly tested.
Good luck.

Note, source code not available yet- I'll release the source when I can properly fix the 162 issue.

Thanks, thats works now.
But im have a merged romset that doesnt use .zip file but .7z file type can Romlister work with .7z archive types?

Yes, RL works with 7z's now too.
Only the rom scan utility looks at your actual rom files. Are you sure you need to use the rom scan utility? That typically only useful for converting lists between different front ends.
