Title: Attaching automotive carpet to MDF?

Hey everyone! I've decided to go with automotive carpet for a racing rig and I was wondering what the best way to attach it to the MDF would be.

Super 77? 90?

Do I need to seal the MDF in some way beforehand?

The MDF sheet is about .75"x2'x4'. I am also open to other suggestions and application techniques if people think automotive carpet is not good to use or if there is a specific way I should be installing it.

1) either.. I think it's super 77 that is more of an aerosol and drifts around, so if your arms are hairy it will feel weird after using it..

2) no

3) just spray both the wood and the carpet back, let dry until the glue doesn't come off the wood or material when you touch it (tacky but not wet, usually takes 3-5 minutes) and then apply.  If you have to pull it up to readjust, you will have to spray both sides again, then wait for them to dry before putting it back down.

I've done it. Just use a staple gun. The carpet doesn't need to be glued on.

I've also used a staple gun. Its all you need. I've abused it and shows no sign off lifing. The staples are unable to be seen in the carpet pile.

Hah. Sorry everyone just as a courtesy I should have followed up on what I did. I used 3m spray 90 under the carpet and stapled it to the underside of the wood and so far it has turned out great. It's been a couple of months (almost) and the carpet hasn't shifted at all. Now if it were to rip I'm not sure what I'd do yet.

I've also build a driving cab and used a staple gun to apply my carpet. I used short pile and the staples are still unable to be seen.

I've also used a simple staple gun to attach automotive carpet. Still holding fine. I picked up my carpet from Kragens and my staple gun is a simple manual style one from Harbor Freight. You can't even see the staples!
