Right, need a couple of things...
1) a really good, not necessarily "realistic" steering wheel for games like outrun. Outrun specifically, tbh. I want to make an outrun cab so am thinking about wheels. A wheel with analog accel/brake on the back of the wheel itself would be handy, too, as it'd mean bartop would be possible (rather than having to use footpedals). In all honesty, I'm unsure on the footpedals on the original machine. I remember playing it but don't remember if they were true analog or just on/off. Anyone have any ideas ? (just incase I have to get some). Looking for something that can be easily modded into a control panel, too, so ease of disassembly would be helpful, too. Anyone have any recommendations ? Also, will the wheel ever rumble ? I seem to remember the wheel rumbling/shaking after crashes or when driving offroad in the original, is there anything in mame that controls this ?
2) I still need a spinner and/or a trackball. Couple of questions on this score. If I got a trackball, is it as good to use for the likes of tempest or is it useless for such games ? I don't really know that many trackball games apart from marble madness and missile command (which I do really like) so probably a trackball isn't as much use to me as a spinner but I've seen a couple of videos of commercially available spinners and they seemed like they could still do with some work and didn't float my boat THAT much - However, I appreciate there really aren't that many on the market. Anyone have any recommendations and/or suggestions as to whether or not I could use a trackball to do both things ?
Thanks in advance !

I put gameplay footage of most of the trackball games in that playlist. I'll be adding some more homebrew games but that should give you a good idea. The Golden Tee games are great (the "Fore!" series of games just got released in MAME). World Class Bowling is always popular with my friends. Shuuz and Shuffleshot get a good amount of play as well.
I would not attempt to play Tempest or Arkanoid with a trackball. The game will function but it will be quite hard to get fast, precise control that way. I have the Turbo Twist 2 and love it. Spin Trak is also a popular choice. I have a playlist for spinner games as well if if you want to see whats available.

I love my turbo twist 2 with token top knob and energy storage cylinder.

Steering wheels for outrun and suchlike ? suggestions ?
Got a load of wood for about $5 today from my friend in a woodshop, definitely getting to work on a new cab now.

Depends on your budget. Most would probably point to something like the Logitech G27. There's a Driving & Racing section of the forum here that might help you.

I've a couple of threads with some excellent replies and info in answer to my similar queries that are worth a read:

I went for the Logitech G25 in the end (Ebay, around £90). Not sure I made the right choice though as I think the Driving Force may have been as good/useful for my needs and is a lot cheaper. I notice the G27 is on sale (e.g. NewEgg) though so may be worth a look. It's not fully compatible with the PS4 I understand so they are likely clearing old stock...
