There have been a lot of posts on here about GT hardware. In MAME .161 it is actually playable! Lots of people have been waiting on this for a long time. The map of the course in the lower left screen is jumbled so it makes it very difficult to see where you're aiming but at least it is progress. The fly-by feature in this version kind of helps out with this. I have personally played 2002 in MAME and I believe 2004 is dumped too, maybe more versions.
Game is still listed as not playable, but it does work for the most part, minus the aerial view map. Great Day for MAME!!! :applaud:

Did you ever get your golden tee boards working again?
-
All of the Fore! versions are in the new release including Complete. I wonder if this will cause a drop in price of the boards since Complete is going for like $300 nowadays.

The map was jumbled in .161 but was fixed for .162. It plays just about perfectly now. There is a resolution dip switch that will make the game run better since it takes some decent horsepower.
They have dumps for all the games but if you want all the courses, you just need Complete and the original. There are 2 9-hole courses that are only in the original (Royal Bannockburn and Rolling Acres). Otherwise, every course is in Complete.

Well, I bought a 2nd Complete board and it is working great. I still have the Complete board that doesn't work. I was going to keep it as a backup or sell it as-is. I had been hoping for this game to be playable in MAME for years. I gave up hope a few months back on bought the original hardware, and now here we are....... :hissy:

Hah. Someone here was going to have to be the sacrificial wallet.
What kind of PC is required to run these?

Could you post your mame.ini settings? I'm running 2001 as in the video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ7_A48bvtA (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ7_A48bvtA) but unlike in the video my sound is quite choppy, especially when the music plays between holes. I also don't get any music at the intro screen. The game is natively meant to run at 59Hz but I can't seem to run it in anything but 60Hz, have you been able to manage this? I'm using frameskip (auto set to about 6/10) and it usually runs at 95-120% depending on what needs to be rendered such as the amount of trees on screen at any given time. It is fairly playable but the sound/commentary repeats at times. I might be missing something obvious but I'm using the latest CHD file.
What kind of PC is required to run these?
I'm running it on a good spec PC (i7 5820k, gtx 980, 16gb ram) and it runs pretty well but there is some slow down, though I suspect this might be partly down to my MAME configuration not being 100% correct as I mentioned above.

If my internet is fixed today, I will post my .ini tonight. Keep in mind that in the Haze's video you posted, he recorded it in a way where you can't see any slowdown in the final video (see the comments in his "Complete" video for more details). He mentions that even on his 4 gHz i7-4790K (Devil's Canyon) PC, he'll get some slowdown occasionally.
I don't believe I am using any frame skipping at this point. I played with that at first but the resolution dip switch was really what got it playing great on my i5 3550. Doesn't look as good but it's not like I ever played Golden Tee for cutting edge graphics. I'm a happy camper. I think my sound sample rate might be dropped to 22100 so maybe change that and see if it helps.

Thanks! Yeah I noticed on his other video he mentioned the slow down, though he still gets sound (ie music in the intro) where I don't. Maybe I'm using an outdated rom file? The file inside gtfore01.zip is "e2-led0.u53"...
I tried lowering the sample rate but no luck, still choppy.

Are you trying to play on Medium or Low Resolution? The single core performance of you chip is essentially the same as mine so I wouldn't expect medium to work very well.
Are you not getting any sound at all? The game defaults this way. You need to press T to raise the volume in test mode. If you did that and the rest of the sound is fine besides the intro, then I'm not really sure. I'll take a look at my roms later as well including the iteagle rom.

I'm playing it on medium, though I just tried it on low and it ran almost perfectly. Graphically not as good, as you mentioned, but still good enough!

Here is some footage of the games in action with my trackball:

Hit the ball into the middle a woods a few times (where you have a lot of transparent objects) and see if it still runs at 100%. That seems to be the most demanding situation in the game.

Why would you like to do that? ;)

Come on, this is an arcade game. Aren't you supposed to go for the high score.....?

So when you guys say this game requires beef to run, does that mean a P4 3.0ghz with 2 gigs of ram won't cut it? I've been wanting to upgrade the PC in mine for a while anyways but funds are of course low with the early summer upon us (where I am anyways) and my garden projects in full swing. Also when is ever a time when extra money is just there for this kind of thing?????

Can someone tell me if it will run on a Raspberry Pi 2????!!!!11!!

Well that's just being ridiculous!

It'll be asked, my friend. Watch!
If you can slowly save up funds, TKWARRIOR's PC deals are solid.

That's what I'm using in the video. I can voice for his "modder" PC for this game.

When the time to upgrade is upon me, I will not scimp on it. It's not just the games, it is a big part of my social life. Half of an "arcade gaming night" is sitting on the sidelines drinking beer and shooting the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- with friends.
Anyone have a link to tkwarrior's pcs?

I just updated from 157 to 164, and the GTFore series is a big reason why, but I cannot get them to work, hoping someone could tell me what I am doing wrong/missing.
When I try to launch them it says I am missing CHD's. I have them, and I believe they are correct, they are named differently than normal CHD's though (ex. "golf_fore_v1.00.25.chd" not "gtfore01.chd"), is this correct? If so, how do I get MAME to recognize them?
I am running mame64 that I compiled, but nothing special, just hi_164 diff applied.
Thanks

Do you have the latest iteagle rom?
-
Make sure the CHD's folder is named the same as the rom folder itself. In my roms folder I have One folder for the CHD named gtfore06 and the ROM folder named the same. Hope this helps.

I think so, but I will grab a new one just to be sure.

Yes, aside from the CHD name being different, everything else is normal, i.e. a ROM, a folder with the same name as the ROM, but the CHD name inside is not the same (which seems off from every other CHD Rom I have.
-
Working, I think my ITEAGLE was bad. I got it with my upgrade, but I grabbed a new one as suggested by DarthMarino, and the new one was triple the size, and they all launch successfully now (except one, but that is probably a single ROM/CHD issue.
Thanks for the Help DM.

Hey so I need help with this, I obtained the "golf_fore_complete_v6.00.01.chd" which is 1.0gig CHD file, not sure how to get it to work... I would love to get this going in MAME if any one can PM please do so.

Drop it in a roms subdirectory called gtfore06 then run it.. Mame gtfore06, all there is to it assuming you have a good copy of iteagle.zip

I actually made this a while back but I thought I would share it if any Fore! players are interested. This is one of those 9" x 12" magnetic boards you find in the supermarket. I use it to keep track of what course my regular guests are on when they come over to play a few rounds. PM if you want the image file and let me know what format.

-
Oooooooh I would love one. Any format is cool, I can figure out what I want to do with it later. I think I might make one for all the other golden tees since I never remember which one I played last.
-
I have one for the 6 games in the 3D series as well. I never really touch 1 and 2.
-
Thanks! That's awesome!
