Hello! :)
I finally got my pandoras box, harness is right.
Plug the board in, I can hear all the sounds but my screen is scrambled.

So, I power it off, plug back in my MK1 board and the screen is perfect.
Does anyone know how I can fix this so I can use it??
THANKS!!

Give your Horizontal Freq/Hold pot a tweak. You often have to do this with these multi boards.

that or its the Vsync, MK used an odd refresh (53hz vertically) so anytime you go from MK to anythign other than another MK game, you have to adjust the vsync pot

I was just going by the photo which looks like an Hsync issue to me - unless the picture is rolling too. :)

agreed, hard to tell from a still picture. That's why I said "That or..."

I may be missing something and know malenko has mortal kombat machines so he would know better than me but what monitor is in this machine? Is it a trisync? Because from what I understand, the pandora board auto syncs between either cga or vga but isn't mortal kombat a medium res (ega) game?
So I'm just wondering if you have the correct monitor in the first place.

Noooooo all the MKs are standard res. MK runs at 400x254 I think

Oh ok.
Sorry, I thought they were medium for some reason

Hello,
I found about 8 little pots - H-Hold/V-size etc.
It's a little black board/box with 8(10?) pots and a degausing button.
I didn't actually find a H-Sync and V-Sync pot, but assumption is that H-Hold = H-Sync??
This did not correct the problem --- Made a difference :)
I can not see the picture, but there are 9 of them hahah :lol
The rolling doesnt stop, but there are also 9 pictures all small. Had it at a snails pace which is good.
Sound is working great, button inputs are great but screen is just not right.
Images attached.
As for my screen, it's not the original 92 screen.
Its an: LG 59cm (flatscreen -- CRT) and the Sharp Image Chassis S1727R. 15khz output.

Any help is greatly appreciated :) (I have removed the -5v lines [had another post])

That kinda looks like it's outputting a 31KHz signal, not 15KHz.
I'm not familiar with Pandora's Box but there must be a way to switch between 31 (VGA) and 15 (CGA).
-
Well that sucks :( :censored:
I wonder if we can change it from the Linux configs?
I had a look at the little SD card - No way to view on windows, but when I open it on my Linux box its just an ARM Linux distro :)
I can full access to the SD and all (both partitions) files and folders, it could be possible to do this via config?
Was hoping it would just work like it said it would.

The info on [Whoops!].com says it auto senses

I agree 100%
Do you have a VGA breakout cable so you can take the RGB signal from the jamma board and plug it into a monitor? Seems like the board isn't detecting the standard resolution monitor. The other thing you could try is to "jumper" the Vsync and Hsync on the monitor , basically make pin "P" from the JAMMA out go to both the V sync and the H sync on the monitor. Worst case , it wont do anything.
-
No breakout cable but could you explain the pin P? Happy to try a jumper:)
-
I've been searching and I'm not sure where t find the V and H sync on the monitor?
It's not the little pots/adjustment board, is it?
I'm about to roll the machine out but not sure where to look.

Mortal Kombat runs at 54Hz on a 25kHz monitor. I believe unless a converter is used it won't work. (Some thing that will change the signal such as a video card on a PC or a video converter).
According to Andy's monitor FAQ at Ultimarc:
"25 Khz monitors. If you have a choice, don't go for one of these. They cannot display any of the early games at native resolutions as the scan rate is too high. Only a few games used these monitors and only these few games can be displayed 100% accurately on them. Advanced MAME will be needed for these monitors."

Yeah that's where I originally got my info from too.

Welp it's wrong. Citation I own MKII and MK3 , and I've owned an MK1 and a different MK3
Delusional, do you own an MK cab or board? Be pretty weird that MK3, a wolf unit game would be medium res when all the other wolf unit games run standard res (hangtime, rampage, open ice, etc)
The midway games that were medium res were nfl blitz and nba showtime and they came out years after mortal kombat and don't use y or t unit boards they used Seattle and Vegas boards.
Citation, I own a sportstation cab that runs blitz and showtime. Also, even though they are native medium res they have a dipswitch to run standard res.
Can we stop spreading bad information? Your reply kind of seems like Andy's FAQ says MK runs on 25Hz and I didn't see anything along those lines when I read it, just that the vertical refresh is 53 hz on MK ( and it is for all of them, we'll at least 1 through UMK3)

Thank you all for the help.
I'm going to go with the HD Converter and see how that works.
Also as a side note: I'm going to see how the Pandora's Box handles adding and removing roms etc.
Maybe we can create a communal SD Image with all games and less KOF :lol
