Furious with myself as I was fixing my control panel did not register my brain to change screw size. As a result it started to go into plexi leaving screw marks about a quarter into it. Do you reckon I could get these out by running a heat gun over them?

I would reckon, no. :'(

Probably not. It would be more effort to fix it like that than going out and getting a new piece. Shallow cuts or scratches can be polished out. You can attempt to fill it in using liquified acrylyc but there is a very high probability it won't come out clean, even after a lot of rework. I'm sure someone with far more experience than I will chime in with a better answer.
Consider it lost money and a learning experience and get a new piece.
Don't feel bad about it. I ruined a lot of my acrylic pieces as of late. I scrap them and move on.

Save it for your scrap pile and go get another piece. You'd be surprised how often having a scrap will save you time and money in the future.
