Title: GroovyArcade installation error
Post by: big10p on May 15, 2015, 07:37:39 am
Thought I'd give GA a whirl but get this error on installation to a new 8GB USB flash drive:

INFO: task extlinux: 2011 blocked for more than 120 seconds:
Tainted: G I 9:17:6-1-GA #1
"echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message

Whatever the hell that means. I can't type the echo command line as the characters that appear when I type bare no relation to the actual key I'm pressing!  :dunno

I've followed all the steps in this tutorial:
https://code.google.com/p/groovyarcade/wiki/USB_installation (https://code.google.com/p/groovyarcade/wiki/USB_installation)

Any ideas?

Cheers.

No-one else had this error?

Think I'll get myself a new hobby, lol. I spend 98% of my time trying to get things to work!  :banghead:

I used to get this error with slow USB drives.

Interesting - thanks for the reply. The stick is brand new and a good make so not sure why it doesn't work.

I have found that a lot of usb sticks even if they are sandisk or kingston are quite slow these days (china mass production etc). could you use a portable external 2.5" hdd instead? that would be quite a bit faster. you can get a used 80gb 2.5" hdd for under £10 on ebay, and a new 2.5" hdd usb enclosure for around £4

Hi big10p,

I've never seen that exact issue. However I no longer recommend installing GA in an USB, since my bad experiences with it. The file system is extremely fragile and you can loose all your data by simply removing the pendrive a fraction of second before you're supposed to. It's way better to use a proper HD.

(probably I should modify my signature)

OK, thanks for the info, Calamity. And thanks, adder - looks like your suggestion is a good one.  :)
