Title: Advice re interfacing Gear Shifters
Post by: ScottoKong on April 24, 2015, 03:54:35 am
Hi All

Been nearly 2 years since I was messing with my racing cab - I need to get to finished.

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,115133.40.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,115133.40.html)

I've got my Happ/Logitech hack working.

I've planning on interfacing 2 Happ Shifters - 1 Hi Lo return to centre, and 1 4 gear shifter.
I mainly want to play 3 games:
Daytona (4 speed shifter)
Outrun 2006 on PC (maybe Dirt 2).
Outrun on either mame or Cannonball.

How should I interface these?

I don't really want to mess with interfacing via my logitech hack/buttons.
I have an ipac4 laying around and a ZD encoder.

Am I right in thinking that Model2 and Cannonball will be fine with keystrokes via the ipac.
PC games - what should I be looking at?
I have an ipac I could use?

ANY advice appreciated!!!!   :afro:

If you don't want the hassle of hooking it up to the hacked Logitech wheel, definitely go with the ipac.
Some emulators and a lot of older PC games won't allow you to use multiple controllers, but they will allow you to use both a controller and a keyboard.
An ipac4 is kinda overkill, but if you already have it you might as well use it.  You'll be able to add as many buttons as you'd ever want in a driving cab.  :lol

I've posted it many times before, but just in case you missed it......

I really like having a start button that posts as Enter, an exit button that posts as ESC, and other buttons that post as the arrows on the keyboard.
(I put arrows on my view buttons and use them).
It makes navigating PC games and the front end really easy.

I had one old PC game (the original 2005 need for speed underground) that required you to press Q to quit, so my radio button posts as that.
