Title: Inappropriate Ad Banner
Post by: jdbailey1206 on April 23, 2015, 09:56:06 am
It's prolly just my computer but I have an ad banner below all the topics that shows me ads from time to time....Well today I got a NSFW banner.  Just wondered if this was just my computer or if anyone else has had the same thing...

I've never had a NSFW banner pop up on BYOAC, but often they are linked to products I've looked at.  ;)

Exactly. Those ads tie into your recent Google searches and stuff. Being away from home can get mighty lonely....

Yeah I'm used to the ads being related to what I have looked at on Amazon and the sort.  Guess I'll have to reprimand my wife for telling me to 'get her something sexy' for when I come home.   >:D

It's just weird to get NSFW ads thrown in the mix.

Did you buy that Ms. Pac-Man? You should pull up to the house and say "Look at this sexy beast...."

I called, texted, and emailed...No response....I really think I'm craiglisting wrong.  Never had any luck on that site.

I was going to go use a Makerspace but it was 2 hours away and I had to spend $105 for three months rent.  I decided I am going to make a all in one gaming console while I am down here disguised as a PS2.

Yeah, I don't even look at the local CL anymore. If I'm looking for anything,  I reach out to the local collector network.

My craigslist is full of people making bartops and full size machines trying to sell their cabinets. It's a race to the bottom too. I see them going for $400. I'm not sure how much time they have invested, but it looks like they aren't making much money.

Those ads come in handy occasionally.  Seemed like about once a month when I was looking at that Chuff thread, Amazon would throw up a $10 coupon off jerky.

Lew you must live by me.  It's sad the 'cabinets' people try to pass by me.  It makes me feel ashamed that I share the same hobby as some of those twits.

We had some guy in San Antonio selling "fresh cabins."  Posted them on Craig's List 5 times a day.  Met him once and he seemed alright but damn it was annoying.

Where at? There's a local guy trying to get rid of a Ms. and SNK cab. He'll list one for free but when you call he'll tell you it's gone but the other is available for $1200. Next week the cabs will flipflop and the other cab is free and gone. Been doing it for about three or four weeks now.

I'm for an advertisement free site.  If we all coughed up $10 for a lifetime membership, then this site would run indefinitely.  I would gladly donate to this site, and maybe get perks like the delete button on forums.  SMF has a provision for such a feature.  Then there will be no advertisements to worry about.  My 2p.

Now don't get me wrong.  What I saw was nice.  Just a flash of girlie parts.  But it was weird to see since the dirtiest web site I went to was a lingerie site.  Just odd.

Savannah - I'm in West Virginia right now.  The listing was 21 days old when I saw it.  It would be nice once in a while too if somebody sells something on CL to be smart enough to remove the ad.

I run adblocker plus, so I dont see any ads. I dont feel guilty about it because I buy from vendors here. If Saint ever needed a fund raiser, I'd gladly donate.

Seems I had a ad virus.  Thanks to MSI for knowing I had it but failing to tell me.  I'm not a fan of MSI.  Should have not listened to my IT guy at work and kept with Norton.  Time to go bomb change all my passwords....

That would do it. If you are on chrome, you can easily check when this crap is installed by going to the extension manager.

On my home PC, I was shopping for my wife for jewelry for our anniversary or something like that. Ended up going to a few sites that also sold lingerie, and for the next month my ads here were all pics of women in panties. It was my home computer, so I looked at it as a karma bonus for shopping for my wife.  :)

Noscript for Firefox and Safescript for Chrome work wonders as well. They can prevent page hijacking as well as block Flash unless you want to run an element on the page.

Vigo - I checked my extensions multiple times.  Didn't have anything.  It was in a programs folder.  I ran a quick program to remove it and completely re-installed chrome.  I have become really lax in running scans every Friday for Malware and viruses.  I was good in college when I was at the computer for 10-14 hours a day.  Looks like I'll have to pick up the pace again.

Jimmy - After my ordeal I am running adblock.  Like I said before I'm starting to pick up old habits.  Like they say, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

Yep, then that one would have me stumped as well.

Wait, aren't you the guy who went away and then his wife cheated on him a month later?
