I recently purchased an Atomiswave candy cab with a broken monitor and am wondering if some or all of it is fixable.
The previous owner bought it from someone who said they had accidentally shattered the yoke while trying to rotate the tube but didn't have any other info. The tube (other than the yoke) and chassis appears to be fine so I was hoping I could replace just the yoke or just the tube since it's nearly impossible to get another 29" mutlisync.
The tube is a samsung and the chassis is a Wei-Ya. These cabs supposedly had 29" monitors in them but it looks almost identical in size to my 27" D9400.
Some pictures below.

Thanks for any help or info.

Even If you can bend the pins back, the tube most likely has sucked in air and cannot be repaired.
-
I thought maybe the yoke assembly could be replaced without damaging the tube. So once air gets into the tube it's toast? I swear I've heard of replacing yokes before, maybe they just weren't damaged this badly?
-
The yoke is the plastic part with the copper wires around the neck, which seem to be in perfect condition on your monitor.
What is broken is the neck of the tube, where the neckboard should be placed.
-
yeah thats proper knackered
new tube required and it will be a dual focus pure flat 29"(27")-if you can find a tube then you can do a yoke swap so it matches your existing chassis

Got it, thanks! I was confusing the two and thought the glass was part of the yoke.

Are these hard to find, any suggestions for a source? I had a friend just recently giving away a Wells D9400 tube that I passed on, bet that would have worked, bugger.
-
nope the d9400 would have been single focus, your chassis is most likely a wei ya 3129d so you will need a dual focus tube
you could replace the dual focus crt socket with a single focus one and just isolate one of the focus wires-then you could use a d9400 tube(but not the yoke)
-
Interesting, yeah according to the sticker on the chassis (see in pic) it's definitley a 3129D. What's the difference between a single and a dual focus? I just assumed since both were autoswitching trisync's the monitor tubes would be more or less interchangable.
-
its the neck pinout, dual focus have 2 focus pins,on many chassis you can replace the crt socket as the neck cards are made to allow for all neck types-you just have to make sure you get it in the right place
also there are loads of models of 3129 chassis to match different types tube-i think there are 5

Well I've tracked down a little more information. I found a new chassis for trisync candy cabs (it lists Astro City as an example) for sale on this site (http://www.arcadespareparts.com/arcade_parts/monitors_chassis/inch_monitor_chassis/13171.html) and they list compatable monitors as:
SAMSUNG A68KVL74X02
TOSHIBA A68KJU96X
TOSHIBA A68KTB189X
TOSHIBA CRT YOKE YS-70059
Oddly the number on mine (Samsung A68QCP891X001) isn't on the list but if I can find one I'd just buy the new chassis as well.
-
More info, according to a parts lists I found, it looks like the Samsung A68QCP891X001 was used in certain retail tv models like the Apex PF2720.

Wonder if this would work if I could scrounge one up, the part number seems to be exactly the same.

Hi 8Bitmonk, I'm new to the forums. I found this post while searching for a fix myself. My Atomiswave keeps burning Diodes and I'm told the chassis will likely need to be replaced. Did you ever happen to find a working one? Im still new to all of this. The guy I took it too got it to run for 5 hours, but the picture started to go all wobbly for lack of a better term and just shut off.
Edit#1 I guess while I'm at it, does anyone know if this would be a good complete replacement?

Hi rjmajor323, welcome to the forums. I was able to find a replacement chassis from China, see the link below. I haven't had a chance to install it yet to see how it works though.

As far as the Makvision for a replacement, I hear they're good monitors. I'm not positive but I think I remember reading that the Trimode isn't something they do on the fly, ie. you have to pick a mode to run. So if you're running mame on your cab where you want it to switch modes with each game that'd be a pain. If you're running a single game with Atomis carts this may not be an issue.
-
not for nothing, but the atomiswave has a VGA out, so you can use any PC monitor CRT or LCD. I replaced the badly screen burnt CRT from my faster than speed cab with a TV

Yeah but it's nice to have the original monitor that mounts nicely and fits the bezel.

Could not agree with you more. But when it came down to cost versus worth for me in this particular cab, the LCD won out. With the tinted glass, you cant tell theres a gap in the bezel either :)
I guess my reply was more of a "keep your options open" kinda thing over a "buy an LCD" reply :)
The tri-sync with the bad burn in, is in my MAME cab now, and gets WAY more use than the racing cab.

Doesn't look too bad with the tinted glass, good for the op to know all the options. How did you mount it? The chassis replacement came to ~$270 with shipping and I'd guess he could get a decent LCD for ~$150.

the TV stand had holes in it for screwing it to the base, so I used them. If that wasnt an option I would have just put a VESA mount on a piece of wood and used L brackets to secure it in the cab.

I found a place on the NEO-GEO.com forums about a place in La Puente, CA that repairs these, I called him up so I'm gonna try and pull the chassis and see what he can do with this one before I commit to a new one.

Good luck with the repair. Report back on how it goes, the guy who repaired my other monitor doesn't work on this type so it'd be good to have a reliable source if it works out.
