I am running the windows command line version of Mame (latest version) and I have noticed that every game has sound problems, the sound will play garbled then instantly clear up, then sound garbled again?? This only happens in mame, anybody experience the same thing and that knows how to fix it?

How much memory do you have? Mame performance is very memory dependant. Are you running onboard sound (onboard sound generally uses a lot of processor ticks.) And I don't think I would run the latest version of Mame with that processor...version .55 should perform much better for you. You might try changing your sample rate (-sr); default is 44100 (try 22050 or 11025). You also might try disabling resample filters (-noresamplefilter),,,both options will slightly degrade audio qualtiy but should help smooth playback. Also you might look at your graphic settings...not all sound issues are sound issues. ;)

That did it thanks!!!
P.S. You wouldn't happen to know why mame won't recognize any fourth player controls would you??

Glad to help.
Hmmm don't know. First thing to do is check the mapping.
1. start a game (any game)
2. hit tab
3. select input (general)
4. scroll down to "P4" settings
What are they mapped to? Might need to (re)map them. You probably already checked this...but it's all I could think of. ;D
