Title: Hardware help - No Signal
Post by: AzureKnight on April 17, 2015, 11:47:06 pm
I bought an ATI Radeon 4890 on eBay to pair up with my Wells Gardner monitor.

My computer is a Dell Dimension 8400, it had a GeForce 6800.

I plugged in the new video card, connected it to the monitor via a DVI to VGA converter and computer's fan kicked on top speed and I got a no signal out.  As far as I can tell the video card isn't even on.

I read that the power supply I had (L350N-00 - 350W) was too week to power the video card so I bought a Corsair CX 600, hooked it all up and the same thing happened.

Anyone have any thoughts?  Did I just get a dead video card?

Well, I won't be any help, but I bought a video card the other day and had to buy a bigger power supply to run it. Made me mad.

Did the video card require added power? I hadn't bought one since my old nVidia TNT2 and was surprised to learn my new one needed it's own power connection.

Looks like the ATI Radeon 4890 does need additional power via the PCIe power connectors on top (6 pins each):

The fan on the video card itself should spin up regardless once everything is plug into the card.  If it's not then it's not getting proper power.
Your older L350N-00 - 350W power supply does NOT have those additional PCI-e power connectors needed.  The new Corsair CX 600 does.
They look like this:  (some may be 8 pin connectors, but they snap apart to make 6 or 4 pin connetors)

Good luck!
