Title: Update Mame without losing settings?
Post by: delt31 on April 17, 2015, 03:05:05 pm
I would like to update from MAME 1.50 to 1.6 (or whatever the latest is).  I don't want to lose my settings though (scan lines, ini, etc).  How do I do this?

Also - my mame romset is 1.5.  I'm assuming I need to update them?  What is the easiest way to do that?  Finally - could Mame 1.6 stop the very seldom stuttering that happens in Killer Instinct?  It's not my PC - it's a beast.  Example - do a finishing move and the game stutters for a split second (plays the same sound twice) and than it works.  could that be mame 1.5 to blame?  Or is KI just going to be like that?

You can try your current INI file, but more than likely the settings have changed. So you'll want to regenerate the INI and adjust settings to match you current one by hand.

The ini file format is quite stable. I regularly update keeping the same ini file without any problems.

Have you used the newest version of MAME? There are a lot of changes. Most of them around the video options. If you visit MameWorld there are people posting that things aren't working and they just need to re-generate their INI file. But, depending on your settings, you might well get it to work without issue.
