Title: HP T5740 thin client for old MAME version

I decommissioned my MAME cabinet to give the space up for a dedicated game about a decade ago so I am very out of practice with MAME. I now have a project going that needs to play Super Pacman and Satan's Hollow both of which are in MAME, any games other than these two are fine but not mandatory. Another requirement is that the PC be quiet and as small as possible. Back in "the day" I ran MAME .77 using DOS and ArcadeOS and it ran great, so I am considering using .77 (windows version).

Would there be any reason why a HPT5740 thin client, Atom N280 1.66ghz, 2GB RAM, 2GB SSHD running XP, would not work for the job? The only shortcomings I can see are lack of built in sound which should be easy to add with a USB sound card. The monitor will be a regular VGA one so I don't need a graphics card for 15khz. Is there any reason this won't work that I have not thought of?

Also, for the basic UDLR/start/coin etc. with no track ball or other fancy needs what is the go to USB based encoder these days? My experience left off with iPac and Keywiz

I have a HP t610 and I use windows 7, Mala frontend, and the latest mame without any issues.

I've booted the latest AdvanceCD on a 400mhz P2 with 256mb ram (yes Pentium two) laptop and a lot of the classics ran full speed.
I believe that is using mame .72 or .78.
I think you will be ok.

Also, these Thin clients have an audio out port so no need for a USB sound card.
The only question I have is if it's full XP or the embedded XP they tend to use for thin clients.
