Title: Buck hunter shooters challenge Jamma pcb buttons not Working (Solved)
Post by: Spitfire on April 07, 2015, 08:06:50 am
Here is my dilemma. I have a perfectly working buck hunter shooters challenge pcb working in one of my jamma arcade machines. I then moved it to a different arcade jamma machine with a better quality screen. In this new machine the game and sound works as normal however I can't get any buttons to work, Start, test, volume up down as these are the only buttons on this machine. I tested a golden tee fore pcb on this cabinet and the buttons work fine for that game but not for buck hunter. I put buck hunter back in the original cab and the buttons work fine there. The jamma harness configuration in both cabs are fairly similar. The only difference I can see between the 2 cabs are the working cab has a switching power supply connected to the jamma harness with a -5volts also present. Where the non working cab has no switching power supply and no -5volt cable. The buck hunter pcb runs and gets its power from a stand alone atx power supply and is a green IT pcb board.

Any help to get it working in the new cab would be greatly appreciated. Thx in advance Joe

in the original cab, follow the wires from the buttons back and see where they lead to. Make sure the buttons on the new cab lead to the same place.

Yep exact same place pin 17 on jamma.

and if you put golden tee in the buck cab, the buttons work?

to me, it sounds like a ground issue, any way to run a ground from the jamma edge to the ground side of a button?

Bad edge on the jamma?

Bad edge on the jamma?

Hi Brian thx for the help. If it's a bad edge on the Jamma why do the buttons work for the GT pcb on the same jamma harness? If it's a bad BBH board why does it work fine in the original cab. Has me stumped?  I have tested continuity on all wires from jamma  harness to button edge and all good.

it's a switch common problem-link pin 1 to one of your switch commons, that will prove it

what i mean is connect a wire to pin 1 of the jamma connector and then take the other end up to a switch and connect to the common-then try it

it take 2 mins and will prove whether it is an issue with the common wiring

Hi mate I have check continuity to all grounds on side of jamma pin to button and from power plugs on board to jamma and to button etc and all are good. I have attached other wires from both the ground on jamma and start button pin to the button and still nothing. Checked all voltages and they are all perfect. Just as me stumped. As said GT 2005 similar green pcb board works fine. And also this board works fine in different jamma cab. Did test on a third Jamma cab and buttons didn't work on that either. Very very strange.

Another update. I got a hold of the manual and was able to go into a diagnostics test on power up by holding down the start button. Once there I could test all the buttons and everyone registered as normal on this test. After proceeding through these tests with all working great. The board resets and loads the game. Once in the game none of the buttons function again ha ha ha it's cursed!! Any ideas???

Yep the coins mech works and registers also in the start up diagnostics. All buttons do. But once the game is fully
Loaded they don't?? As me beat ha ha

You have checked all the grounds.   Is the 5V good at the Jamma connector when the buck hunter board is plugged in?

the jamma interface >(gen2)<
*Gen3 green board also has u6 populated along with x6 and r208.<

So I received an email from a tech at IT he said that because I am connecting my monitor directly through the graphics card and not through the jamma this is the problem as the pcb requires signals from the card to operate correctly. I connected a y VGA splitter so the signal went through the pcb also and all is working perfectly. Thanks everyone for your efforts. Hopefully this will help others in the future. Thx Joe

thanks for posting the fix in the thread, more people need to do that and not just post "fixed it!"

Wow, that's a pretty random fix. Good thing you emailed IT; I don't think you would have ever figured that out on your own.
