I had some time this weekend and my daughter and I decided to put to use some joysticks and buttons I had bought a few years ago. I bought an IPAC2 from Ultimarc (3 days from the UK, what what) and a 4x4 piece of 1/2" MDF from Home Depot. We used a 1 1/8" Hole Saw to cut / mangle the holes for the buttons and joysticks. Since this was to be a test of putting it all together we were careful but not overly concerned if things didn't come out perfect. At the end of the day we realized the button placement was spaced a little too far apart but that can be fixed in the next revision. We spent the next day wiring up the panel and IPAC together and downloaded MAME. Out of the box, everything worked as planned and we enjoyed some gaming for the rest of the day. Overall pleased with the results and we are designing our next control panel now.
2x Happ Ultimate Joysticks
6x Red Happ Buttons
6x Blue Happ Buttons
2x Black Happ Buttons
1x Player 1 Happ Button
1x Player 2 Happ Button
1x Ultimarc IPAC2

Standard Street Fighter layout like that I like 1.5" center to center on the buttons. That looks like, maybe, 1.75"?

2" spacing actually. When I first laid out 1.5" it looked to close but obviously I was wrong. I will probably do a little curved arc next time or at least properly space them. SF2 is a little harder to play with them that far apart.

Slagcoin (http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/layout.html) is your friend -- just be sure the layout prints out 1:1 by using these directions (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,144723.msg1504203.html#msg1504203) from fmzip and verify the spacing before you drill. ;D

I found that one earlier but the printing threw me off a bit. That link helps to clear it up a lot. I was throwing some of these ideas into CAD and the printing in there didn't quite come out 1:1. Next time I will just use the Slagcoin templates. Thanks for the tips!
