Title: black square in corner of screen
Post by: eddweed on December 25, 2003, 05:46:07 pm
Hi. I've an athlon optimized version of commandline mame 0.73 running on my cab. On some of the games there is a square box in the bottom right hand corner area of the screen that is black and stays there whilst playing the game. It does seem to be game specific and not random, If I exit the game then restart it, it will appear again. I'm running xp pro, athlon xp2000, 256 ddr. I have the exact same copy of mame and roms on my laptop of the same spec but with xp home and no problems at all. Thanks for any possible help

that sounds like the cursor to me... sometimes at really low resolutions the transparency of the cursor gets screwed up so bad that it shows through a full screen window.... try a resoluiton of 1024x768  and see if you see it

I had this problem before as well - but only at 800x600.  It is the cursor.  I opened up my cabinet and cleaned all the video connections.  Worked for me...might work for you.

I think both of you may be right about the cursor. I changed my compilled version of mame to one directly from mame.net and the problem only happenened a couple of times since. I will put the other version back and see what happens. Thanks to you both for your help

The mame version or what build of mame your using has absolutely nothing to do with the issue.

It's a video card/resolution issue, not a mame-related issue.  It happens with certain video cards at lower resolutions or with bad video connections....

solution... check connections, if that doesn't work use a higher screen resolution or a fixed screen resolution that doesn't show the cursor or turn on hwstretch, which removes the issue.
