seriously. Tried to update the BIOS on my old X2.6 modchip and it failed. With that, the xbox would only boot into the MSDash.
I bought Agent Under Fire on Ebay, it ended up being platinum edition, the one that doesnt work. eBay seller said "just keep it" and gave me a full refund.
I bought MechAssult on eBay, it was the platinum edition, seller said "too bad".
I bought Splinter Cell on eBay, I made sure it was the black label edition.
Total spent: $9.94
So with the correct black label game , I copied the saves to a flash drive, then copied them over to the xbox via an xbox to USB cord. Softmodded the 80 GB HD already in the xbox (thank god it still booted since its not the factory drive). Then I pulled the whole thing apart, soldered the top and bottom of the board (non SHARP 1.0 TSOP). I'm pretty far out of practice with my fine soldering and ended up bridging the connections with a piece of wire instead of just solder. After flashing, installed 250 GB HD, used slayers to make the drive. Copied my saves over from old drive to new drive, installed CoinOps 6 and Im good to go.
at least I got +3 on my ebay rating out of it.

I've probably chipped a dozen Xbox's. Not a lot compared to many, but more than most. I've never once did a tsop. Difficult?

My copy of MechAssault and my memory card with my "no boot screen" bios will be pried out of my cold, dead hands.

just bridging 2 solder points on 1.0 to 1.5 XBOXes.

Can you send me the no boot screen bios?

tsop is the easiest. its just soldering 2 points and flashing the nand. I did hundreds and only one "hanged" during flashing the tsop and kinda soft bricked it. then had to revive it with a chip.
tsop hardware mod is exactly like a chip without the cost of hardware and labor.

I did all software based mods on my 2, what's the reason for the soldering? Is that based on the version of the xbox?

soldering the connections basically flips the switch to allow the NAND on the xbox to be re-flashed. Removes the need to have a hardware solution, like a modchip, that over rides the stock BIOS. Once flashed you can break the connections and keep the NAND from being re-flashed. XBOX 1.0 through 1.5 could all be TSOP flashed, but the 1.6 and 1.6b XBOXs couldnt be flashed anymore, and thats why they can only be soft-modded.

Supposedly there's a couple games and DVDs out in the wild that can screw up the soft mods. I've mentioned it before and I'm loath to post the titles again because the only thing Google turns up is my old posts about it. Suffice to say that one of them is the kung fu RPG made by Bioware, but that game sucks anyway.
I always just TSOPed because it didn't cost anything and there was no possibility of the end user messing things up later. Any mod chips I encounter these days is pitched into the trash.

main reason to tsop is for hard drive upgrade. its just easier than adding bigger hard drive on a softmodded xbox. some of the xboxes had the tsop points on top too so you didn't even have to take out the motherboard. Id say those are some of the easiest mod $ I ever made lol..
hardest were wii mods with chip. had to drill through ic chips to solder INSIDE :banghead:

Yikes. I only did one Wii modchip, the Wiikey, and it was pretty straight forward IIRC. Nothing worth stealing on that system anyway.
-
^ there were multiple variation. some new ones required you to drill through the ic chip with a dremel then solder inside lol. craziest mod but I wanted to see if I can actually do it. :burgerking:

I would have given you my splinter cell.

I would have given you my splinter cell.
you can still give me any other games you dont want for any system :) Im not a collector, Im a gamer!

That's the only one I got so far. Got it on eBay for about 3 dollars for my soft mod.

I spent $9.24 total
Agent Under Fire was $4.99 shipped, but I got a full refund. MechAssault was $4.75 shipped, splinter cell was $4.50 so thats only $3.08 a game, and I actually like all 3. Forza is so much fun it was worth wiping the dust off my xbox just for that game alone.

I've had a bunch of folks asking me about xbox tsop in recent months. I'm happy to hear that old skool scene is around still.
