Hi all,
It is have been long time ago since my firts project "BACK TO THE ARCADE" Weecade clone.
Before one year i had opened a topic about a new design of a cab i have designed from scratch. A new cab something like lowboy and OKbaby styles for my 3,5 years son.
Must have features:
1) 60cm width for two players comfort gaming
2) control panel depth 22cm for arms resting while playing
3) the players sould play while sitting on a chair
4) 19 inch monitor LCD
5) coin acceptor for NON FREE PLAY
6) metal kick plate for unlimited kicks
7) super sound system (creative inspire T6160)
8) heavy duty black paint.
Under coat 3 hands of bedliner and at the end 2 hands of black oil based paint
9) Back ventilation with ON-OFF switch
10) Keylocks everywhere so my son wont be able to reach his hand inside the cab
11) Back wheels and handels for easy transport
and the last one
12) Secret free play mode for special days like christmas.
Scanning with a magnet a specific point of the cabs body the pushbutton nextt to the coin acceptor will power on and while pressing it we will have credits.
The Name "FAMICADE ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM". FAMICADE is from family arcade.
Hope you like the photoes.

The final result of the cab will be like this...

The build is stucked now at the chapter "ARTWORK / THEME" .
I really like the FAMICADE logo , which you can find it attached but...i think is not enough by its own.
I would really like the cabs sides be covered with stickers. Not with busy artwork (arcade heroes , company logos etc) but with simple stripes. And the colors of the stripes will match the pushbuttons colors.
If anyone has a photo / link of a cab with nice simple colored stripes/lines at the sides please mention it.
Above i attached one example of what i mean and a clean side if anyone has a suggestion.
Thanks in advance... i am really confused at these chapter of the build.

Hi all. Back again at the project.
The project must be ready this Christmas to be my sons christmas present. So no time to lose.
I have made some progress
- I have painted the monitors plastic (before it was silver)
- i have made the wooden bezel which i rap it with black vinyl.
- i have received the buttons. I choosed the sneslike layout.
- i have mounted the monitor with a very unique (IMO) way. I used "feramies" (thats the way we call it here. Normaly we use them between the sides of the beds. Very cheap , easy to use , easy to mount unmount with the 2 screws.
- I have received the plastic loo sign "FAMICADE"
- Also i have finished inside the cab the electronics - power - cables etc and i have mounted the pc drawer.
The bezel is covered with plexiglass. But i dont like that the monitor is visible when the cab is OFF. So i ordered a small piece of glass (with smoked sun film) so the monitor wont be visible.
Hope you like the photoes.

It's a Christmas present for your son but it's called "Famicade"? I hope he likes sharing. It reminds me of the episode of The Simpsons where Homer gave Marge a bowling ball inscribed with "HOMER". Good luck with your project.
-
He he he .... I have convinced my son and also my wife that this is "for the kid". Yes you are right.... its like the bowling ball.
But i hope it will be for all the family and when we are all together we will have arcade battles.

Holy crap, I didn't even notice those.

About the admin buttons.
I am using zero delay encoder and i would really like to use its inputs for pc indie gaming at the cab. There ae many game which i would like to have at my cab. At my first project (Back to the Arcade - Weecade clone) i really regreded that i used 4 action button for each player and only 2 admin buttons.
Now about the "left handed thing". Here in Greece -almost- all the arcade cabinets had the joystick at the right hand and the buttons at the left hand. I dont know teh reason. If there was a cab with the oposite (normal layout for you) we crossed our hands.

Do you guys think that this setup is OK> Is it going to have a double mirror image or something?

Why add the extra piece of plexi? Why not just use smoked on the outside and then have the wooden bezel layer?
-
Good question.
I didnt want to have glass at the outside cause of safety reasons. The cab will be at my sons playroom so other activities - with balls - are very dengerous.
I didnt put smoked plexiglass at the outside cause i didnt found a store to sell it at a good price. For example 60X54cm one offer i got for smoked plexi was 80€ (~80 USD).
So i got the clear plexi for 10 € and i got the inside glass+film (20 €).
Hope i explained the reason.
-
OK the glass+sun film is mounted behind the bezel and the frame of the monitor isnt visible :)
The pc isnt ready yet and i dont have a laptop or any other pc to connect it to the cabs monitor and see if there is a "double image" or something else.

Hi all.
It has been a while before my last post about my project.
It is completed and me and my son are very happy whith the final result plus that the cab is ready at the vacations.
Now the cab is in free play mode but after the holidays the coin mech will be the only way to add credits :burgerking:
Hope you like the result.
