Title: First time build
Post by: Brozzo Von Pits on March 17, 2015, 12:49:59 am
Off the bat, let me say this forum is fantastic.  The amount of information in here is slightly overwhelming, but oh so encouraging.

I'm not sure this is the right subforum, but what the heck.  I'm planning my first cab, and am a firm believer in trial and error.  Do it once, and if it's terrible, do it again.  and again, and again if necessary.  Mistakes are just opportunities to earn scars and learn what not to do.

So far I'm looking at a starter pack of zippy 8 way joysticks, xinmo controller and buttons.  It's going to run on a laptop thats a couple of years old I have lying around, and will use an old LCD monitor and computer speakers I no longer use.

I feel like I'm on the right track, but am willing to listen to more experienced voices if this is a recipe for disaster with no possibility of success.

welcome to byoac.
there is a tone of information here which perhaps could be a tad overwhelming for new comers ....Theres a lot to take in and learn, like basic wiring and woodworking techniques...
But this site has all you need to know. BYOAC new wiki is a great place to start http://newwiki.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?title=FAQ (http://newwiki.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?title=FAQ)

I havnt tried the xinmo encoder so perhaps someone else can chime in about these but I hear they have a bit of lag.
havnt tried zippy either but they are the cheapest ,so I wouldn't expect much (Get what u pay for).
but the zippy is probably great way to go for a beginner and if you don't like them you can always upgrade to a sanwa in the future.

welcome and good luck with your build.
ps...post this in the project annoucment sub-forum................for future reference
