This thing requires a computer to load code so.... ???

I just don't get it. You want to teach kids how to code? Have their school purchase a bunch of rasberry pi's. They can actually program the device using the same device.

Maybe its more of a micro controller learning tool?
Idk they already have the RPI and even the cheapest one easily allows for an LCD display hookup to the gpio pins.
