Title: What's easiest way to get sound with JPAC?
Post by: Dutsk on March 13, 2015, 12:40:36 pm
My xbox is hooked up to my JPAC jamma setup. How do I get sound?

I'm on a mobile device now but if you find my Sega astro city restoration post you can see what I did.

I just bought a cheap amp, AV switcher and a high to low line converter to convert the sound back to mono for JAMMA games.

I found your restoration post but am still wondering what I need. I have 2 8ohm speakers in my midway cab. I can trace the speakers in my cab where they most likely went to a pcb( which I took out, in lieu of an xbox) but unsure of what I need. Maybe I'll PM you if you don't see this

Thanks!!

You can just take the audio feed from the xbox and not have it go through the jpac at all.

If you want, you can remove the existing cab speakers and place some powered computer speakers in their place or re-use the speakers with a small cheap amp like this one from Parts Express: http://www.parts-express.com/t-amp-tripath-ta2024-2x15w-audio-digital-amplifier-board--320-600 (http://www.parts-express.com/t-amp-tripath-ta2024-2x15w-audio-digital-amplifier-board--320-600)

if your cab has a volume control, you can wire it in between the amp and your speakers.

Great! That looks like a cheaper solution.
How does one wire this to the speakers? How do I feed it power? Does this need to plug into my JPAC anywhere?

Doesn't the Xbox have an audio out (either a jack port or through a breakout cable)?
You would just feed from that to the amp. You would have to strip the cables to terminate it.
The amp is powered with a plugin transformer.
If the amp is 12 volts @ under an amp and you have an arcade power supply, you can power it off that.

Easiest solution is this:

http://www.amazon.com/Lepai-LP-2020A-Tripath-Class-T-Amplifier/dp/B0049P6OTI/ref=pd_sim_e_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=14P7305YXB5QA7J1DVH9 (http://www.amazon.com/Lepai-LP-2020A-Tripath-Class-T-Amplifier/dp/B0049P6OTI/ref=pd_sim_e_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=14P7305YXB5QA7J1DVH9)

No wiring required.

Yeah exactly.
I've used that amp in the past for small room sub sound systems but for some reason couldn't find it when I was originally responding to this post.
You can put that little bad boy right in the coin door and have easy access to your volume

Ok so I need an amplifier for between my speaker and jpac.

Do I simply wire my left and right stock cabinet speakers to the amp and power via 12v power supply and I'm good to go?  Seems too easy/good to be true. Keep in mind my setup is XBOX-> JPAC -> jamma

doesn't the xbox have an audio output?

The xbox has one audio/video output on the back. That output is connected to my JPAC. Hence no sound with the jpac

Does your setup look anything like any of the pics here:
http://www.ultimarc.com/xba.html (http://www.ultimarc.com/xba.html)

you keep posting the same simple question.
you wnt help but you take no steps to help yourself.
maybe you can post a pic of what you've got if you wnt others to solve your issue.

Upon further inspection of my JPAC Audio video cables from ultimarc I found a headphones size plugin on my video adapter. My setup differed from the ultimarc site so I thought I had no speakers plugins.

I have read that JPAC does not amplify sound so I would still need the amp. Anyways here's my setup

Ok here we go:

from that board, connect a 3.5mm stereo cable
(http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=136713.0;attach=326076;image)

to the mp3 input of a Lepai amp
(http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=136713.0;attach=326072;image)

then hook the left speaker to the left output and the right speaker to the right output
and Bob's your uncle
