Title: Jpac/ jamma and xbox question
Post by: Dutsk on March 12, 2015, 04:46:51 pm
Hi guys,

So I've got my JAMMA cabinet running the video for my xbox and it looks decent, some slight flickering upon first powering on. However, I do NOT have sound and it seems my current stock control panel only has 3  out of 6  buttons cooperating (joystick not working). I have not programmed my jpac with button assignments because I'm not sure of what USB cord I would need.  My CP has a SKINS GOLF game 'flip' joystick seen here : http://www.quarterarcade.com/Game.aspx/10132 (http://www.quarterarcade.com/Game.aspx/10132)

Questions I have:
Is this joystick compatible with xbox? Can I program it using into my jpac?

What's the easiest way to get sound working with my setup?

I've read threads where you need a sound card with an amplifier, is this what I need for an xbox / jamma cabinet..

How do I program my jpac?

I believe I need a video cord to USB of some sort to connect to my computer to use WINPAC..

Extra buttons?

For a new CP, I'll need more buttons. Do I connect player 1&2 first 3 buttons to jamma then the extra I need (3 each) to jpac?

AUDIO
you need to get analog audio out of your xbox and splice to your JPAC's audio inputs.  You should be able find what you need there using Google.

JPAC
You should not need to program your JPAC. It connects to your PC with a USB cable and presents itself to Windows as a keyboard. But if the pre-programmed assignments aren't good enough you can download the WinIPAC utility from ultimarc's web site.  But I wouldn't mess with the defaults if you don't need to.

A typical JAMMA setup would be a joystick and three buttons for each player in a 2 player setup.  I think that the JPAC may allow for a couple of extra buttons but a standard JAMMA harness will not.  You need to look at your setup to see.  If this is a one player setup only and you need more than 3 buttons then you can use all of the player 2 inputs on the JPAC and remap them with the WinIPAC software.

VIDEO
Whether or not you need a Video cable to your JPAC can only be determined by knowing what monitor you are using.  But if you have video now then you probably don't need to do anything special with the JPAC.

JOYSTICK
I would not use that joystick. There is a lot of information on joysticks on the forums but check out Groovy Game Gear's website for something that fits your needs.  E.g. 4/8 way switchable, 4 way only. What are playing? Fighting games? Pac-Man? etc.  Zippy sticks are inexpensive and work well.

Audio: is there a converter for analog audio from an xbox to a jamma harness or can I cut up a standard xbox cord and feed it to my JPAC?

JPAC: I don't know how to connect my JPAC to my computer, there is no normal usb plugin, just keyboard type ones, I'm assuming I'll need to buy an adapter.

joystick: I'm looking to play a lot of sports games on the system; NFL BLITZ, NHL HITZ PRO, etc. So I am looking for something that supports more than 8-ways. Unless you think id be okay with an 8 way stick. Thanks I'll check out groovy game gear but I need a joystick to work with JPAC and XBOX for my cabinet. If that is possible
