For me it was Crazy Climber. I don't know why I pumped quarters into this frustrating game >:( I don't think I ever made it past the second building.
-
When I was young, probably Robotron. It came out when I was ten or so, and it was just too fast for me.
I get better, though.

To this day I still suck at Defender. And I'm not all that good at Galaga, either. But I am pretty good at Galaga3 (Gaplus). Go figure.
-
I am really bad at Defender, but I am going to fix that. I just got a Defender t-shirt and keychain for Christmas, I have two empty Defender cabinets in the basement, an NOS overlay and new repro marquee sitting on my table.
I will eventually get good at it.
-
LOL! I have to agree here, both Stargate (defender2)and Robotron were the hardest games I ever remember playing in the arcades and I sucked at them. Average game time was about 1-2 minutes per quarter...I purposely stayed away from them after that, claiming they cheated to steal kids money.
Now that I own both original cabs, I kick Robtron's butt on a daily basis (on max difficulty). And am still working over Stargate...can only get past that first warp but she will crack. They are both my b!tches now! HaHaHa!

Pacman
Never got past level 3 ??? :-[
-
All fighting games. I never played them in the arcade (except Karate Champ) because I boycotted 50 cent games starting when Dragon's Lair came out. For the life of me I can't get past the centaur on MK Trilogy for N64 even on easy difficulty.
-
I'm with SNAAAKE ,
I hated PAC-MAN. I never made it past the 2nd stage as a kid. Now that I can play it all day on my machine at home , I STILL CANT GET PAST THE SECOND STAGE!!!!!!
Comic Book Guy says "Worst...Game...EVER!" ;D

Defender for me also, I never understood why a reverse button was needed. Asteroids used to be too difficult, but now I am the master. 8)
-
Fast Freddie.
I don't know what is worse about it, the colors or the right to left scrolling.
I once that was a typical Japanese game, since they read from right to left, they probably play games from right to left too.
-
Defender, Stargate, Robotron, Ghosts & Goblins.
The trick with Pacman is learning patterns. Without using patterns it's very difficult to get past level 6 or so, eventually your luck just runs out.
The interesting thing is that the games I tended to avoid in the arcades because they were too hard (and thus expensive) are the ones that I tend to play most in MAME because of their longevity.
-
Defender and Joust....
-
Defender for sure! Better at it now though, but still sucketh!
Another game was The Pit... I've never been able to make it back up to the ship and clear even the first level. With MAME it's the occassional mission... I'll sit there for at least an hour trying to clear that first level. If I ever do... I'm considering it a personal victory and deleting that frustrating ROM set!
-
Major Havoc and Dragon's Lair. I seem to recall sucking at Sinistar, too...
-
Kung-Fu Master. I can't get past the first floor. I have always been, and probably always will be, bad at that game. But I loves it so much, I do.

I used to kick ass at Kung-Fu Master! I remember the day I won the game on one quarter.
Now I really suck at Pac-Man. I never could remember the patterns or make it off of level 2. I really like the game though.

Like Buddabing I could never play fighting games well. I was never able to pull off any combos in the MK series (except for the occasional Lu Kang bicycle kick) and would get slaughtered by anyone in the arcade. Even using cheats I still can't play the games well. :P

Blasphemy. I can get to about level 6.
Worst games ever, marble madness and donkey kong jr in terms of how far you can get on 1 quarter. Is it possible to get past level 2 on dk jr on 1 quarter?
-
Defender is the game I suck the most at, it is also the game I would most like to master. I've never been past the third level and blame it on not having a true Defender control panel layout. I'm sure I'll disprove this theory when I put a dedicated Defender/Stargate panel on my next MAME cabinet. :P

My wife can get to the 3rd or 4th level on DKjr one her first man. The Japanese and American versions have differant levels.

Bah! It's all about Marble Madness. Any other game and at least I felt like with practice I could get better at it. MM was just an all around slap in the face of my trackball talents, squishing any hopes I had of getting farther on the next quarter.
-
Defender. Couldn't play it then, can't play it now. I also found Joust to be really hard back in the 80s, but now I can walk all over it.

Ugh this EVIL game you had only one shot at bombing the dam. Ahh to kill a hour or so I would play robotron I used to keep my machine at difficulty setting #7. Wave zero is the hardest. My machine had the "shot in the coroner" bug.
-
Burger Time!
Seems like a strange one to be bad at, but I completely suck. I mean so completely that I don't think I've ever gotten past the second level, and that's not for lack of trying. BT was a fixture at one of the local family pizza resteraunt arcade places (think Chuck E. Cheese in its heyday without the singing rats) that were so popular in the 80's. I'd put a coupla quarters through it every time I was in the place (at least weekly) and boot it up regularly in MAME.
Still suck. My girlfriend though, is pretty good at it.
I'd include Defender on the list, but I never really got into it enough to know if I coulda been good or not. Never got past the feeling-it-out stage.
-
Definitely Sinistar.
I never got good at the "mining" part of it, so when I heard "Beware--I Live!" it was pretty much time to just walk away from the machine.
-
720 - I couldnt even get to the stages before getting killed (by bees?). And even if i did - i couldnt do a damn thing.
-
Defender and Stargate for me... I think I'm even worse now. My next choice would be Lost Tomb.
-
Astro Blaster. The local Safeway must have had the hard version because I couldn't last 30 seconds on that thing.
And yet it kept calling me: "Fighter pilots needed in sector 4! Play Astro Blaster!" Whoops, there goes another quarter.
Phoenix used to bust me in the chops as a kid as well.
-
Defender and Stargate for me as well, I used to just get owned by that game.
Pac-Man on the other hand was my ---smurfette---... :) At one time I was good enough to have people stand around and watch me play, I was about 10 or 11 at the time and ate, slept, and drank Pac-Man. Seriously addicted.
-
well i'm with the select few in that pacman was my worst game...but not because i was terrible at it...i could usually get the 4th stage or so, but i just thought the game sucked! i mean, props for being the staple of video games early, but i only have that game in my roms list because its a classic..not because i ever play it!!!
anyway, i think DK was my most frustrating. its a great game, but i sucked hard core at it. usually get to the second stage with no lives remaining.
-
I sucked at Goal Goal Goal from Neo-Geo (Visco) if i'm not mistaken here... :-X
-
QIX...I absolutely suck. The initial high score table starts at 30,000. Two months of trying and it still sits at 30,000. I can't even sniff 30,000.
Any tips?
-
For me it was Zaxxon...Game is cool, but I think I had trouble with the whole psudo 3d, climbing and diving away from the missles...just couldn't get it down...I'd put in one quarter and it would last me about 30 seconds.
