So my old MAME Cabinet was out in the garage for awhile and I brought the PC inside and it's dead as a doornail. I had all kinds of OS issued with it being a Windows 95 and I've seen some videos of the new 60in1s or larger set-ups. I'd like to go to an out of the box solution. I think everything else in my cabinet is good to go: Monitor, controls, marquee lights, etc. Can someone please point me to the best option/s for a 60in1 type set-up? I need an out of the box solution that can connect to an IpAC. Something that has a built in front end, lots and lots of games and is fast. my controller set-up is a duel street figher 6 button set-up for each player.
Thanks for any help! I'm exciting to get my MAME machine up and running again!

Any of the XXX in boards are JAMMA and will interface directly to the controls. No ipac needed.
-
you dont need an IPAC with a 60 in 1, just a jamma loom.
Also, none of the games would use all of your controls (there is 1 game that would use 3 buttons, gunsmoke)
Now if you got one of those 1XXX in 1s, it could use all the controls, but you'd still need a jamma loom. Lastly, duel =/=dual
-
I think more information would be need though. Do you have a Vertical or Horizontal setup? Are you joysticks 8-way or 4-way?
There are different xxx in 1's for each particular setup. A good place to start would be what games you are looking to play.

Well if he has a vertical set up and a street fighter layout using 4 ways, he has bigger issues than what to use to run MAME.

Something that has ..., lots and lots of games...
Does not sound like a 60-in-1...
-
I'm 99% sure he's got a horizontal setup in there.
-
Ha! I missed that part. Yeah, he probably needs a 619 in 1 or 520 in 1 horizontal solution.
Unfortunately, that's the most we can discuss here. You'll have to find the sources on your own. But good luck!

What do you mean by duel = / = duel?

Vertical Standard Cabinet based on SIDS design if I remember.
8 way joysticks, yet the 4way games are a pain in the ass on it.
Ideally an out of box solution where I can turn off the 4 way games if I build a retro cabinet specific for 4way gaming sometime.
Love the Street fighter games, but I grew up in the 70s-80s and love em all!!!

If anyone can PM me with further info, insight, links, anything I understand you may not be able to post certain things in an open forum.
Or you can PM me for my direct email too. :) Thanks again for any help! I have no idea what I'm looking for in a new set-up but knew to come here for the experts advice!

What do you mean by duel = / = duel?
duel =/= dual means that duel doesn't equal dual.
A duel is an arranged engagement in combat between two individuals, with matched weapons in accordance with agreed-upon rules.
Dual means "consisting of two parts, elements, or aspects"

That is way cool! Is there a way to toggle between 4 and 8 way via a button on your control panel by any chance?

You may want to read RandyT's posts in this thread (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,123175.0.html) before you get too excited about non-hardware 4-way restriction.

The info in that link seems to relate to a slightly different concept. They are talking about interpreting movements where this restrictor basically ignores the second signal when in 4 way mode so will only do up/down/left/right rather than diagonal. It's not bullet proof but is certainly better than having to physically change the restrictor plate each time you want to swap game types. This is a link to the wiki for the device.

The details aren't exact but both items in question are interpreting the inputs from the joystick based on rules that a players movements may very well not conform to. If I mean to switch from an up move to a left move but don't move far enough to get all the way off the up switch then the circuit in question will not register the left move. If both switches in an 8 way can be physically hit then no amount of simple software or firmware or circuit logic can accurately send the only the signal the player intended.

It's definitely not 100% accurate which is why i said it's not bullet proof. The simple fact is that if you want 100% accurate you either physically change the restrictor plate or have two machines with different joystick configurations. If you don't have two machines and don't want to change the restrictor plate each time then something like this is a decent option. There's a long thread on Aussie Arcade detailing the positives and negatives of this particular option.

So the big decision is what are you going to play on this machine.
Pictures would also be helpful.
I'm assuming you have a horizontally mounted monitor (used for games like Street fighter) not a vertically mounted monitor (used for games like Pacman and Donkey Kong)
You described your cab as vertical but I'm thinking you're talking about it being upright.
So if that is all correct then the 60 in 1 is definitely not for you.
If you go to any xxx in 1 solution, you will need to get rid of the Ipac and rewrite with a jamma harness.
As far as 4 way restriction goes, physical restriction is easy enough that it makes no sense to me to go any other way.

What you are describing is another MAME machine.
If it were me, I would spend the money and time to rebuild it.
I don't think that there are xxx in 1's that will meet all of your criteria and you are pretty much locked in to either horizontal or vertical, not both.
I have experimented with the 60in1 and the 412in1 and either sold the machines or replaced the boards with MAME PCs.
I would assume that the horizontal versions of them would perform similarly.

Hi!
I have a CRT PC Monitor in my cab standing like a PC monitor typically does. My cabinet is upright so I thought that meant vertical vs. a cocktail cab I figured was horizontal. Yes I mean it's an upright cab...with a standard PC monitor in normal standing position. Someday I'll upgrade the cab and monitor perhaps, but probably just to a high res flat screen PC monitor or a flat screen LCD TV I'd think.
Thanks for the advice also!
