Title: Mamewah 1.62 "bad music file" music won't play
Post by: stevodevo on March 02, 2015, 08:19:02 am
Posted this over in the MAMEWorld forums but have yet to receive any response... maybe someone here has seen this error message:

I'm running 1.62b12 and had to rebuild mamewah tonight... not sure what happened but I had to re-run the system setup.bat and register a dx8.0 dll in order for it to work again...

In any case, the only error I'm receiving now is "bad music file" and my background music isn't playing.

It was before I had to rebuild so I don't think it's the files themselves...

Which file in the system files controls music or is that just a directX sound file? I will try reinstalling directx 8.0 and see if that fixes it. Just surprised I couldn't find any other posts dealing with this error.

Thanks!

Since that post I have yet to try re-installing directx.  I'm running dx 9.0c so not really keen on downgrading.  Any suggestions for restoring what were working music files back to working again??

Thanks again!

Sounds / music are played by DirectX.

DirectX 9c should work ok as far as I know...I am using on at least one machine and sounds work. That said I do not use the music playing feature.

Is it an MP3 file? Does the file play OK in Media Player?

Thanks Minwah... yes, the files worked up until *something* happened that caused me to have to rebuild... I'm thinking my son pulled the plug or somehow didn't power down the cab properly.

They are all mp3's.  I will try them through Media player at the next opportunity.  Sound works fine when launching the games, it's just the background music inside Mamewah itself that is now broken.

Thanks!
