Title: What should I get as a replacement monitor?
Post by: Fludoodles! on March 01, 2015, 08:30:13 pm
Hi!

I went to play some Millipede today, only to see my monitor had died. The tube is out, and I'm not interested in fixing it. The image quality wasn't all that great to being with, so I'm looking to replace it entirely. I know very little about what I can use as a replacement, because in the past when I've had monitors die, I just fix them or get the same model to replace it. (It has the original chassis and monitor that came with it for the sake of reference)

I'm not exactly a purist (because the Masushita model is god awful to begin with), so if it's possible to put a 19 in. uncased CRT tv or something in place of it, or an LCD screen, I might go for it. I just don't want to buy a monitor that won't fit, because the monitor in the Millipede has an odd pinout IIRC.

What are my options? What are the important details I should look into as far as what's needed to replace it? Thanks in advance if you have any advice or insights :D

Check Craigslist or KLOV and see if anyone is selling an arcade monitor before you go the LCD route.

That fine, but is there a specific monitor, or series of monitors I'd need to look for? I don't want another Masushita :|

Look for a no-burn Wells-Gardner. Don't fear doing a cap kit.

Just make sure its a 19" standard resolution.

you may find Korteks or one of many Wells Garners.

If you really want to go with an LCD, there are replacement arcade 15khz LCD monitors to be purchased.
I know Wells Garner makes models of these as do others.

a couple of places to look are Betson and Twisted Quarter

These lcd monitors typically come without a mounting frame but one can be bought as an option.
