Title: Gyruss - audio in mame
Post by: Rogles on February 28, 2015, 10:04:27 pm
Has anyone noticed that the music in Gyruss seems to be really low in mame (or the sound effects are too loud)? It's something that has been bothering me. I tried it in mame4all on my raspberry pi and it sounds correct. It's low in mame64 and groovymame and I'm not sure if it was always like that. There doesn't appear to be any settings to fix it.

Do you have the original hardware to compare against?

I wouldn't know if the sound is off or not, but it seems ok to me. I'd suggest checking http://mametesters.org/ (http://mametesters.org/) and see if you can find the game or driver/system to see if there are any reported issues.

Otherwise, you might want to post over at mameworld:

Gyruss if remember correctly has now analog filters implemented and emulation of AY-3-8910A has been changed as well so it might sounds differently. Question is - does it work now correctly.

I agree that the balance in Gyruss has never sounded quite right in MAME (I'm on .156).  The music is muted compared with the effects.  I recall the music being much more dominant in the arcades.  I've tried playing with the sliders, but can't seem to correct the balance.

Yeah, there's no way I would have originally noticed the music in the arcade if it sounded the way it does now in mame.

Anyway, I didn't see anything at mametesters, so I made a post at mameworld.
