I bought 2 of these nokia lumias at target. They are clearancing them or something. I think they could have use with mame since it is windows. Not sure if you are gonna find them in stock, but wanted to put out a heads up in case interested.
Once you clicked into the link provided on slickdeals http://marketplaces.fyndly.com/target/markdowns/store.html?q=nokia+lumia, (http://marketplaces.fyndly.com/target/markdowns/store.html?q=nokia+lumia,) click "check inventory" and enter your zip. You should be able to see what's around you.

Finally played with it. Looks great, but damn....I was assuming that mame would be a shoe-in for Windows phones....I can't figure out if this is possible. Anyone know if it can even be done on a win phone?
-
OK, beginning to figure out the answers myself. It seems like I need to more or less jailbreak the phone using windows RT toolkit or something like that. Eh, I am gonna figure this out over the weekend.
-
Sucker.
Er, I mean, thanks for taking one for the team.

:lol
Well, one of the two was to be used as a phone to replace my nearly dead iphone. I am pretty sure I can use this phone for a micro cab project, but I hate dealing with phone jailbreaking. The screen is good, It has a USB port, and I think MAME should work once I figure out the jailbreak process. I just don't have the energy to deal with figuring it out right now.

I wonder if there is a roccat app on windows nope

Games that weren't originally designed for a touchscreen interface suck on a touchscreen phone.
I miss my old Nokia N95.
I bought the AT&T version (520) to use as a music streamer in the kitchen rather than tying up my main phone.
It made more sense then paying 5x as much for an internet radio with limited apps. I highly recommend it for that purpose.
Someday I plan to hack it into an old wooden tabletop radio cabinet.

Thats not a bad idea, right there. Especially since I just got a pandora 1 account.
-
I've already got a pile of old cell phones and tablets and nothing to do with them. Figure out something useful plz.
-
I wouldn't mind having one of these to give my son to use as an "iTouch" for music and games. He doesn't have a phone yet and would just use it where he has WiFi. $20 seems like a steal.
-
Good thing about the 520/521 Windows phones are you can use them for offline navigation. I picked one up for $50 last year and use it as a cheap car computer for Nav and audio. Cheaper than a head unit.
-
The high/low points for those considering picking one of these up.
Comes with Windows Phone 8, but updates to 8.1
GPS
Nokia phones come with onboard maps (well they have to be downloaded), which mean they work without cell reception or phone activation.
Nokia owns Navteq which provides the maps for Garmin, this is the same map data as Garmin.
The phone will take much, much, longer to get a GPS fix if you don't have data service.
I haven't used this particular phone, but the older Lumia 900 that I carry daily has voice navigation, so I assume this phone does.
No camera flash
home buttons aren't illuminated
screen feels like plastic to the touch, but touchscreen works with gloves on
weighs almost nothing, which makes it feel cheep IMO
Cortana isn't much more than a rebranding of Bing voice search. (ask her anything, the phone displays results from Bing....at least on this model)
-
I picked one up over lunch. Thanks for the heads up Vigo.
BadMouth is right that the phone feels very cheap. I'll get at least $20 worth of education out of it at a minimum. I've been wanting to play around with Windows Mobile for some time and so far it has been fun. Should make a good little game device for my son until he gets his own phone.

If you figure it out, lemme know.

I've since moved on to Note4 .. the Lumia 1020 was fun while it lasted, still have it and was thinking of using it for a jukebox or something.

Do you do anything fancy with a note 4?
