I am going to be using a Pentium 300mhz, with either Win98se or WinME, Radeon 7500. The features I really want in a frontend is,
Startup video, I want to be able to specify a video file that when the frontend boots up it will play it.
Tease mode, again I want to be able to specify a video that when the machine hasn't been used for a specified number of minutes it plays it.
Any frontends do these two things?

Not sure offhand, but I know there's a screen-saver app that'll do that when your machine's idle, and you could always do the opening video via a batch file. Food for thought if you don't find anything :)
-
True, that is what I will do if I cannot find anything else.
Thanks for the tip!!

I recommend you use Win98SE NOT WinME btw :)

Actually, with a 300 mhz comp, I recommend Windows 95 OSR2.

Angryadmin stated that he would use 98SE or ME tho. I take it '95 is not an option.

Well, lets just hope he doesn't use ME. It is one thing to play Sundance in Mame, and it is another thing to have an operating system that also matches Sundance's stellar reliability record. ;D
-
Actually I am open to using any WIN OS. So you guys think I should go with win 98?

Either 98SE or 95 OSR2. It all really depends on how much ram you have. 32-64 MB, then use Windows 95 OSR2, if you have more than that, then choose 98SE.
Don't choose ME for anything ever, especially not for a Mame cabinet, NT really isn't Mame suitable, and XP would cripple that machine.
Also, with that processor you should go with an older Mame version like .55, that way you can actually play most of the games (current version is way too slow for that comp).

Dragon King coupled with any third-party video screensaver should be able to do this. It has the ability to run a normal windows screensaver as it's screensaver. I believe many of the others can as well.

So it will allow for an intro video also?
Will Dragon King run ok with this system speed (300mhz)??
Thanks,
NH

Last I checked Dragon King had higher hardware requirements than most new PC games. I couldn't even use it on my 733 Pentium 3. It also seems to only like certain video cards (I don't know all the details on that, but there is a huge thread about it somewhere).

that's a streatch of the truth....
dk will run on anything, literally... you just need a video card with true hardware acceleration... with a 300 mhz system I doubt you have the proper video card.... radeon or geforce 2 or higher are reccomended
also with that puny of a system you'll have to use a skin other than the default... one that uses a text list instead of a graphical one.
so probably not :)

One thing that might work is to make an HTML file with all the things you want it to do.
Just start writing a web page and link to the commands.
As far as running the movie, you could call media player and then have it exit when it's done with the command line.
-
Emulaxian might do this...but I'm not sure you have enough pc to run it....you'll have to check with Peter on that one.

Check out the new Kymaera, It's got built-in video support, I'm sure I could put in an intro movie feature for you.
It'll run on just about anything (no hardware acceleration required, but it'll take advantage of it if you have it.)
