Title: 2 out of 4 USB gamepad boards not seen by MaLa
Post by: boardjunkie on February 25, 2015, 02:58:19 pm
I just finished a 4 player panel using USB gamepads wired into the stick/button switches. Windoze sees them just fine and all functions work. MaLa is only seeing 2 controller IDs, all functions are fine with those. How do I get it to find the other 2 controllers?

I should mention that MAME sees all 4 sets and I was able to map them thru the tab menu.

For what do you need to map 4 USB in MALA?
I think It's not necessary.

Greetings.

Its a 4 player cab this is going into. Turtles, Simpsons, Gauntlet, etc. is what you need 4 player controls for.

Yes, but not in MALA... To handle MALA with two joysticks is enough.
Greetings.

So...what...are you saying MaLa is not equipped to see 4 sets of controls?

Yes, I believe that Mala only looks for two USB devices. 4 player games are still fine, but player 3 and 4 just cannot do things like surf the Mala List when in the frontend.

If you wanted a workaround to have access for P3 and P4, you could do something like set up Joy2Key so that P3 and P4 put out keyboard strokes, and map the keyboard to Mala Controls.

Ok then. How do I go about changing what it sees as the 2 default USB devices? The panel is wired and I am not going to rip it all apart.

What its doing is see'n the plyr 2 and 4 sets...I need plyr 1 to be the control that navigates the gamelist and loads a game. Plus the start and coin switches are on one of the "invisible" controls.

I THINK the answer is drventures controller remap utility. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=108767.0 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=108767.0)

If I am right, Mala is looked for the first two USB controller IDs. Your Player 2 and 4 probably have a higher ranking ID than 1 and 3. So I think you should be able to run this utility, set player 1 and 2 as the first ranking USB IDs, then Mala will look for them first.

Hopefully that should solve the problem.

Ok...how 'bout this. What if I unplugged the 2 I don't want to have MaLa see and assigned functions to those 2. Would the settings stick when the other 2 USB controllers are plugged back in?

Running dry on ideas. Changing the ports when you plug them back in might do something.  :dunno

Perhaps, you could take a look to AllInOneFYC program.

I did get this worked out. What I did was alter the USB controller priority in windoze so that the board that handled the GUI functions was seen first Go to advanced tab under game controllers in control panel and highlight the one you want first. Right click on it and select "use this controller for older programs". Just for reference in case others have this issue.
