Title: Is there a standard kerf for table saw blades? Will my slot plan work?
Post by: harveybirdman on February 20, 2015, 04:53:03 pm
I'm pretty sure it's 1/8th of an inch on most, but I'm planning on buying materials before I drive to the shop (it's freaking 25 miles plus away from everything)

I'll be cutting slots like this

-----   -----------   --------   ------------
      '_'             '_'          '_'

and I want to make sure that the 1/8 inch thick Tempered hardboard that I'm buying will slide into the slots, do you see any issues with this plan?  Will it be to snug to easily slide back in forth in the slot made by the blade?

I've got 3 blades of various brands and they are all pretty much 1/8".

Good to hear.   If the slide factor isn't good I can just sand them a little I guess, it doesn't have to be perfect for the application I'm using it for, thanks!

It's typically marked on the blade.

If you want those slots to be flat, make sure you get an ATB – Alternate Top Bevel or Flat bottom blade.  Otherwise, it will look more like a valley than a square groove.
