Title: I give up. Where to buy a cab?
Post by: Stingray on December 22, 2003, 11:17:04 am
Okay, I've been through the phone book with no luck. I cannot find anyone who has an empty cab or a broken arcade machine. Where in the world do you buy one?

I tried:
amusement devices
amusement places
coin operated machines
vending machines
video game renting/ leasing
video game dealers

any help would be appreciated. I'm not excited about the prospect of building one from scratch.

by the way, I'm in Oklahoma in case there are any other members located here who know of a source.

I wanna say I've heard of a couple of people posting up cabs in OK on the buy, sell, trade section.

There has to be an arcade somewhere near you.  I had good luck just going into an arcade and talking to the manager/owner/whoever was there.  Most of the time there is an empty cab they are wanting to get rid of for cheap or free.  Or they can hook you up.

Worst comes to worse Watch for the arcade auctions that happen here in Dallas.  Not sure how far you are, but we gots plenty down here.

keep looking

Post a request to alt.games.video.arcade.marketplace .  Tell them what you are looking for and see what turns up--When I lived in Chicago, this is how I got my cab and monitor--and within a couple of days of posting too.

Actually, that's rec.games.video.arcade.marketplace, and it's sisters, rec.games.video.arcade and rec.games.video.arcade.collecting

Where in OK? If you are close to the MO border, I might know of a place that can sell you a cab on the cheap. Last time I was there, they let me wander through their warehouse at my leisure... They had so many empty cabs and "run-down" classics, I vowed that if I ever went back I would bring my checkbook.

Go to klov.com and look up a guy named Krk, I am pretty sure he is in OK, and last I heard he had a BUNCH of broken/empty games. I got my Sprint 2 from him, nice guy.

Yeah but you better hurry if you're gonna get one from Krk, I'm gonna try to clean him out.  He's still got some decent stuff, most of it is missing something or other.  I got  a Defender that had been converted to a Cabal from him.  It's missing the back door.  :(

Where in Oklahoma are you?  I'm in Stillwater... Krk's in Tulsa.
I think he's got about 5 full-size cabs left, and one cocktail that is in pretty bad shape.  A couple of them are 70's games, then there's an Atari Black Widow cabinet, a yellow cab that he thinks is a playchoice, and maybe something else.  I believe he's trying to get rid of most of it because he's just paying for storage.

Another member from Stillwater?  I'm actually surprised.  I figured that there were probably sources for buying cabs in OK but felt it would be more "fun" to build one myself.  Plus, the possiblity of maiming (not mame-ing) myself for life was just to fun to pass up.   :P

Danny, what color and width of t-molding are you looking for?  I have several colors of t-molding that I'm not using.

I'm pretty sure i'm getting t-molding for xmas :) .  It's just 3/4 black for these cabs.  I'm converting this defender for my little brother as a christmas present.  I've had to run around like a madman, but have gotten it together in about a week.  Just need to drill a couple of holes in the shelf to hold the monitor in place, then make the wiring look pretty....  then secure the computer...  then tweak the front end a little more...  then put holes in the plexiglass and not break it.  So yeah i'll have it done by christmas.   8)

Also, if you feel like coming to St. Louis, I have an extra Defender cabinet with sideart. (NOT Free, I didn't get it free, $100, it has EXCELLENT sideart, but it is a little wobbly, needs some rebuild work at the base or something).

My friend Pat in St. Louis (AKA: Mongo), often has cabinets, many of my games used to belong to him.

Also, check the classified ads EVERY DAY, I have snagged quite a few games that way.

Of course there is also the method of simply checking ebay EVERY SINGLE DAY for local stuff, but that is the most expensive way to go, and way too many other BYOAC members will be bidding against you.

I'm just outside of Tulsa. Can someone give me contact info for this guy Krk? Don't worry, I won't clean him out, I just want one full size cab.  ;D

Thanks for the input guys.
