Title: U-Trak rattle
Post by: epetti on February 17, 2015, 11:45:02 pm
I noticed today when I was using my U-trak trackball (haven't used it in quite a while), that it rolls very smoothly in a couple directions, but going down it barely rolls and more has a loud rattle like it's lifting up or just not spinning well. this also shows in the cursor which does not move well at all going down. Is it expected that you need to regularly clean or lube it? And if so, what's the best approach? Did a search and found a four year old thread where this question went unanswered and another where there was a good bit of debate over the best choice of lubes. Didn't know if by this point there was a  preferred approach to fixing this problem or if other people experience it as well.

Thanks.

That started happening to mine after we got obsessed trying to claim and keep the high score on marble madness. I took mine apart and reassembled it and the problem went away for a while. I hosed down the bearing with lithium grease and don't think it helped. What I do now is just spin the hell out of the ball in all directions to "work it out" and that seems to be the best for me, hopefully it works for you!

Placing a very small amount of hand cream on the ball and rolling it should cure this problem. This tip is mentioned on our website U-Trak page.
