Title: Specs for I-Pac2 based control panel
Post by: someUserName on February 16, 2015, 09:15:06 am
I read through several posts and other documentation on the various controls for a cabinet and was wondering if the following combination of items would work. I was going to purchase the items through UltiMarc. I didn't want to buy more than what I needed, but I definitely didn't want to miss something and have to pay for more shipping...

I know the I-Pac2 has 32 inputs, so I should have 4 extra inputs for future expansion. Am I assuming that the trackball does not use any inputs since it goes through the USB?

1 - I-Pac2
2 - Mag-Stick Plus                           - 8 inputs
16 - buttons                                    - 16 inputs
2 - Pause/Esc buttons                     - 2 inputs
2 - 1 player / 2 player                       - 2 inputs
1 - U-Trak Pearl with USB2 + Cable  - 0 inputs?

Welcome aboard, SomeUserName.   ;D

You may want to add 2 inputs for Coin 1 and Coin 2.

The 2015 version of the ipac2 now has the interface for spinner and trackball built in. It is via additional 2.54mm pins so you don't use up your digital inputs to also connect it. I just wired up one with an old golden tee trackball and it works great.

You are good on the amount of inputs. You can also use the ipac2 shift key feature to move the admin  functions to button combos rather than dedicated keys. This saves buttons, wiring, and inputs. I believe it is also more user friendly. You are certainly not near as heavy on admin keys as some, but it is something to keep in mind.

Thanks for help!

This may be a stupid question, but with the trackball, would I need the "USB2 + Cable" option? I assume that I wouldn't since it can connect directly into the I-Pac2.

You should be good with out the additional usb cable. Andy, the guy who runs ultimarc, answers emails pretty quickly if you want to confirm though. Also I guess I assumed you were ordering directly from ultimarc. Some other vendors may not have the new parts if not specifically advertised as such on their site.

You don't need 8 buttons per player. Nothing uses that but later consoles and those aren't really playable due to lack on analog controls and lack of logical shoulder buttons.

Yup, you are correct; I will be ordering directly from Ultimarc.  I initially was going to email him directly, but thought I would try the forum first since he probably gets a lot emails. I'll email him and find out and update this post with the information.

Andy from Ultimarc is on the forums, actually.  That's one of the things that makes this place cool.  Most of the reputable vendors are forum regulars!

No, if using the 2015 board you dont need the USB option as the trackball plugs directly into it.
