Title: HD failed, cam I install new HD image using USB?
Post by: popcorn1 on February 14, 2015, 12:04:12 pm
ION system (aurora 2010)
Is it possible to install a new HD image to a fresh drive using just the USB port? I don't have the Centronics adaptor. I know I can just open the game up and connect a dvd, I was just hoping that USB was an option for this and I simply havent stumbled on the right sequence. I have the disk images DL'd from the legacy site.
Thoughts?

No its not possible. The ISOLINUX file system merit used does not support usb. It will boot but once everything is passed over to the the installer, it will fail with kmod errors. The amount of work involved to rebuild with usb support would not be worth it. Dont be lazy. Just hook up a ide cable and use any ide dvd rom drive. Or if you have the ASUS or Intel motherboard you could use a sata dvd rom drive aswell.
